    Expected more than it was
Half of the aquarium is more an aquatic museum, with models of ships and history about fishing and whaling. I found the aquarium itself crowded in terms of the amount of fish in the pools. The two large sharks were swimming continously in circles. Not sure if there is standards but it looked definitely overpopulated. Also, despite the signs to not touch the glass, of course all the children did touch it, so some sort of officials walking around to enforce that would certainly help. Fish seemed clearly stressed in some pools.

    Wheelchair accessible and fun!
Great activity for a rainy morning. Includes history of the city and the port. The exhibits are quite impressive for a small aquarium, including a large tank with sharks and rays. Very wheelchair friendly, with elevators for each level!

Get there early for a truly memorable experience.
We visited San Sebastián aquarium just as it opened, on a Saturday in August, and we were the only people there! The main attraction is the Atlantic Ocean tank where you will have sharks swimming above your head- to experience this exclusively was incredible. But had we shared the experience with others, we also would have loved it. We would have liked a slightly bigger pacific area with tropical fish, but for us, this was a small part of a full day in San Sebastián and so we really enjoyed an hour here. You could spend longer, but our children zoomed through the first half which is a museum, as they were keen to find the fish. It is the best value aquarium we have been to. Our best tip is to get there as the doors open.

Perfect for a wet day in st Seb, even if it's busy
Our family of 4 recommend it! We have two kids age 14 and 11 and wanted something to do on a rainy day in st Sebastián. We spent hours in the aquarium and could have stayed longer. Even though it was busy as it was a wet day in feb, the flow of people was steady and all the little kids we saw loved it too. There was a huge variety of things to see and lots to learn about. I would have liked a tiny bit more I for on the tanks. Couldn't help but thing the big tank looked a little crowded but we are no experts. All in all a great visit.

This aquarium is worth a visit when in San Sebastián. We visited as a family with older teenagers.

The first section is a maritime museum providing information about the historical importance of the local area to ship building and the fishing industry. It shows the evolution of ships and ship building as exploration of the world expanded from Europe. There are cool dioramas of net fishing techniques and great info about the history of whaling.

We enjoyed information about pirates, privateering and some weaponry aboard old sailing ships!

In the lower levels is the aquarium which predominantly showcases marine life of this part of the world. Although there is a tropical tank with anemones, Nemo and Dory. With patience you can snap a pic of the three together!

There is an obligatory tunnel that goes under a large tank and the fish, sharks and rays swim above your head. We loved the octopus tank: the octopus in there was very active.

If you are used to seeing penguins, dolphins and seal shows at aquariums you might be disappointed.. but we felt this was a great fun and informative exhibit of local marine life and the marine history of the area.

This wasn't the largest or best aquarium I've ever seen, but it certainly is a very good one. There was a museum when you first entered with lots of replicas of ships. The aquarium is the floor below, and there are several tanks with interesting fish and sea animals. My favorite tank was the jellyfish tank ... they are always so relaxing to watch. We were there on a Saturday, and it was extremely busy with lots of kids.

This was not our first visit to the San Sebastian Aquarium, but this time the experience left us disappointed. The water in the tanks was murky, making it difficult to see the fish in the large aquarium. The poor water quality even affected the quality of our pictures. We were also disappointed to find that not much has changed or been updated since our last visit six years ago. It seems that some areas may have even been closed off. How can they expect tourists who visit San Sebastian each year to return to the aquarium without any improvements or innovations?

From the outside, you can't tell how large and wonderful this aquarium really is. We spent between 1.5 and 2 hours here. (For reference, we are animal lovers and usually spend more time than most people.) The walk through tube display is clearly the highlight but the rest is very nice.

On our trip across the north coast of Spain, we visited aquariums in Donostia, Santander (the "Maritime Museum" which is half museum, half aquarium), and Gijon and we liked this one the best (though the one in Gijon was a very close second).

Signs are in (Castilian) Spanish, Basque, English, and French so many people can appreciate the aquarium to its fullest.

I would recommend to others and I would go back again.

what a delightful aquarium! It's three stories and has such lovely, well kept tanks. The tank in the aquarium is gorgeous. I could've spent hours in the tube watching the various aquatic life swim around. I'm so glad I made the visit with my mom and brother.
