Gontxu was a perfectly wonderful guide for our 5 day trip to the Basque Country . He understood what we wanted to see and do and he skillfully negotiated the different requirements and activity levels that my husband and I presented. He took us trekking, including some stretches of the Camino de Santiago and we loved his choices. We visited charming villages, posh cities and the Guggenheim museum. On top of that, Gontxu is so nice and unflappable. He was so careful to take good care of us. All in all, Gontxu exceeded our expectations and I miss him already.

Hurry and book Gontxu for your next San Sebastian tour. We had 5 guides in 9 days and our group of 6 all liked him best. We had a fun, interactive day that was also informative. We left beautiful San Sebastian feeling we understood much of the history, geography, local custom, cuisine and culture. Terrific Pinxtos selections!! You will enjoy your day!

Gontxu was the perfect private guide in Basque country - his tour was one of the highlights of our trip and we talked about every day since. Everything was effortless . The pre-trip communications and planning were clear, prompt, and reassuring, making us comfortable and easing any nervousness. He picked us up in a comfortable Mercedes van for our trip to Biarritz and St-Jean-de-Luz. Met us at our AirBnB and even procured shild seats for the young ones.
He is knowledgeable about the Basque culture and the region. He talked to every one in our group, even the kids, to make us all feel comfortable and it really made the trip special for us all. He took some pictures, which he shared with us over WhatsApp (they all use it here so make sure you have the app). He is smart and humorous, and flexible. The kids wanted to swim, so he worked it into the trip while in Biarritz. No problem for grabbing a cold beer, wine, drink, or snack at any point during the trip. It was relaxing, interesting, and we felt like we were touring with a friend who happened to be a local.
The highlight was a special stop for lunch at a town that I never heard of and couldn't find on the map called Pasai Donibane (sp ?) A small village on the side of a small fiord where we had lunch on the later. He turned us on the a delicious local drink called Pantxaran (also spelling ?). We've been drinking it every day since, even here in Barcelona).
Don't hesitate to book a tour with Gontxu. You'll heve memories for a lifetime. Next time we will certainly use him again - and there definately will be a "next time."

Gontxu is an expert for San Sebastian. A local friend recommended a tour with him – and we were happy that we took the chance.

Up the hill, exploring the enchanted memorial place for English soldiers who stepped by their basque friends in early 19th century (if I remember right), taking all the views, visiting the hidden bar on that hill that we didn't relocate later, having some pintxos, a quick boat ride, taking the walk along Pasajo de San Juan to the lighthouse: a great experience in just a couple of hours, always enriched with the background stories.

Gontxu is a nice man, used to climbing mountains, surfing and whatever, who already lived all around the world. His English is very decent in the Spanish language desert all around. But mind up: If you don't want to slowdown Gontxu and experience the whole adventure, take good shoes for the walk as it might become an impressing but nearly not existing path.

We had great fun, including our grumbling 9-year-old daughter who was not really looking forward to this walk.

Gonzalo planned a perfect day to tackle the top of La Rhune mountain. La Rhune, with an elevation of almost 3000 feet is the start of the Pyrenees mountain range, located on the west end, bordering France and Spain. Gonzalo enthralled us with an amazing panoramic view of Basque Country and at one point we got to stand at the border of Spain and France. There is also a train that you can take to the top of the mountain, but Gonzalo’s guide was more enjoyable and educational for our first La Rhune experience.

On June the 8th we were blessed to have spent the day with Gonzalo in the Basque country. He put together a very personalized tour that included an incredible tour of Loyola (the birthplace of St. Ignatius) and a fabulous 8 mile hike of the Basque coast. His tour of Loyola fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine to experience the origins of the Society of Jesus. An added bonus was hiking parts of the Camino Santiago along the most stunning coastline ever created. In sum, Gonzalo can customize any tour for you. He is funny, fun and very knowledgeable. His English is very good!

I visited the coast of Vizcaya this weekend and Gontxu was definitely the perfect guide. I asked for a tour of the beaten track and he definitely nailed it. Visited places like Lekeitio, San Juan the Gaztelugatxe and the amazing, unique and enigmatic "Bosque de Oma". I would highly recommend this awesome guy to be the one to show around this beautiful land.
