Incredible experience! We are a couple from New York who did 3 tours with Ander - a tour of the city of San Sebastián & pinxtos, a tour of the Basque countryside (including the BEAUTIFUL town of Elizondo), and a day trip to Bilbao. Every step of the process was flawless. Ander is a true local who is extremely knowledgeable and also just fun to be around. We can't recommend Go Basque enough. We have told our friends and family to visit this amazing area and book a tour with Go Basque. Seriously stop researching and just book it!

Thank you for your nice review Max & Cecily! I also had a good time with you both, specially visiting the town of Elizondo in Baztan Valley. I send you a big hug from San Sebastian to New York and take care!! Ander

Nina and Ander organized an unforgettable day for me in Rioja. When I was looking for a day of wine-tasting, I wanted something a little different from what was on their website. They were quick to respond to my inquiry and were able to customize a day that was just perfect.

They picked me up bright and early and we were off! On the 90-minute ride out, they pointed out areas of interest, so I wouldn’t miss a thing. Throughout the day, we not only talked about wine (of course!) but also talked about the history, politics and culture of the Basque region. It was great to learn a little bit while traveling through the gorgeous country side. They were so warm and friendly, it felt like I was out with friends rather than “guides.” Our first stop was a wonderful private tour and tasting at Muga then off to a few more tasting rooms in the Rioja area before lovely walk through Laguardia and finally a delicious feast surrounded by stunning views. The day was just perfect.

Thank you for day that I can’t stop telling my friends about!

We had an amazing boutique experience on the Game of Thrones filming locations tour of the Basque Coast with Nina & Anders. While the views were spectacular what made the tour unique was having the opportunity to get to know Nina and Anders and learning about the Basque culture through their personal stories and experiences. It did not take long for my husband and I to feel like we were on a day out with friends. Anders is extremely passionate about his Basque heritage and they are both very knowledgeable about its history.

Since it was just my husband and I on the tour they were able to tailor aspects of the tour to our specific interests. My husband is an avid golfer and having discovered that through our conversations, Anders took a different route back so he could show my husband a golf course along the coast. The place where we had lunch had amazing views and was away from the “tourists” which allowed us to have an authentic experience. We really enjoyed learning about the local cider and drinking it 😜 while eating pintxos. We absolutely loved San Sebastián and this tour made our time there even more memorable. We hope to return to San Sebastián in the future and would not hesitate to book another tour with Nina and Anders.

Ander and his wife Nina picked us up at our hotel in San Sebastian and we were off to a fantastic journey in the French Basque country. The trip started by driving in-land to the Spanish Navarre region. The first stop was a cute little Spanish village called Elizondo close to France border. Then we crossed through the mountains into our first main stop: Saint-Etienne-de-Baigorry. We then visited Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a major stop for pilgrims on Saint James way heading to Santiago de Compostela. After a really nice lunch in a little French restaurant where we tasted some Basque specialties we headed to Espelette, famous for their dried pepper by the same name. This village will be one of the stops for the tour de France. Return back to San Sebastian was through the city of Saint Jean de Luz. In summary this tour is focused on small villages that are located in-land in the Pyrenees mountains (as opposed to big coastal Basque cities such as Biarritz or Bayonne), learning about the custom, culture and language of the Basque people. Ander and Nina were wonderful hosts and guides. In addition to a nice tour, we also had a few good laughs on the way!

I have taken a lot of tours over the years, but this was one of the best!! Nina and Ander are well informed, positive and enthusiastic hosts. They clearly love this region and their enthusiasm shows. We learned a lot - from history to culture to food to current politics. I highly recommend this tour.

I chose Go Basque for a special birthday treat for one of my best friends and the tour exceeded my expectations.
Ander was friendly, sensitive and really gave you a sense that he was sharing a place that is close to his heart with you.
Ander picked us up from our guesthouse and gave my friend a Basque cake as a birthday present. He then showed us some viewpoints before heading to the Txakoli vineyard for a tour that was lead by one of the family owners there. The tour was informative without being boring and the wine and pintxos at the end were delicious!
We then continued on to some of the coastal points stopping at a fishing village (I forget the name!) for a short walk and stop in a pintxo bar. After this Ander took us to Itzurun beach for breathtaking views of the cliffs and sea (also filming location of Game of Thrones, if you´re into that).
I would 100% recommend this tour.

We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable beginning to our San Sebastian vacation! Nina and Ander drove us to La Rioja in their luxuriously roomy Audi and gave us a very interesting overview of the Basque region while we enjoyed the sights along the way. We had the opportunity to enjoy several wineries, which all included tastings. The tours at the wineries were in English and very informative, and of course the wines were incredible. We had an enormous, delicious lunch - included in the tour - and topped off our visit with a stop in charming La Guardia. Overall, an amazing day!

Our great experience started with the moment we inquired about a tour ended with our follow up email from Nina, sharing cider houses for us to consider the next day.

Ander picked us up in his extremely comfortable Audi and we spent our ride laughing and discussing our day to come, Rioja wines and the history of Basque Country. Time flew by and we were soon at Cune. Our tour was in English; it was full of facts, stories and sights. We did a group wine tasting and the asked to experience the Imperial wines. Wonderful wine which I hope to enjoy for years to come. We also visited Ostatu and a few other wineries, at one we had a wonderful lunch. Our tour included and very cool stop at La Guardia. It was a great day and Ander was awesome. I highly recommend Go Basque!

An unqualified recommendation. Ander is among the very best guides you could ever hope for. He was born and raised in Basque Country (San Sebastian). He is very friendly, courteous, fun (yet extremely professional), articulate (speaks 5 languages fluently and articulately, including English), extremely knowledgeable of the area, history, culture, best sights, restaurants, bars (Pintxos), etc. We had last minute itinerary changes and he graciously accommodated our needs. My wife and I were very interested in the Basque history, culture and sights (I have distant ancestors from the Basque country) and he exceeded our highest hopes & expectations. He chauffeured us in a new Mercedes van which was very comfortable. We experienced our tour in every way: sights, sounds, food, culture, history... extraordinary for 1 day. I am certain there could not have been a better gentleman to guide us through our day in the Basque Country. When he dropped us off, we felt like we were saying good bye to a member of our extended family.

Eskerrik asko George eta Mary! Just for a few hours but I am happy to read that you both enjoyed the day tour from Bilbao to San Sebastian. It was a shame that we weren't able to meet any Bastanchury on our way, but I am pretty sure that next time we will!! :) Take care and I send you a big hug to both of you!

What a wonderful day we spent with Ander visiting a few of the many nearby medieval Basque villages. Our private tour with Ander has honestly been the most memorable part of our visit to San Sebastian. We especially appreciated the door-to-door service and the easy conversation with Ander, who was raised in San Sebastian. We learned not only about the areas we visited but about what life is like growing up, living and working here. We never felt rushed and Ander was open to stopping anywhere we liked. Our first stop was Sare, known for its delicious Gateau Basque (cake) and where fronton (jai alai) is the favorite pastime. Traveling the lush countryside to our next stop in Espelette, Ander pointed out the raised wooden huts built on towers used to trap migrating wood pigeons. Espelette is known for its production of espelette red peppers. The entire village has white houses with red or green shutters. It looked like a fairy tale town built as a temple to the little red peppers. The 17th century Basque church had a single aisle with wooden galleries and the scent of old wood. Ander knows all the places where you can taste the local cheese, chocolate or pate. Finally on to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port which is the starting point and the most challenging part of the Camino de Santiago. The streets are steep and cobbled, dotted with pilgrim lodgings and many shops. The “way” is well-marked with directional arrows embedded into the cobblestone streets and signs taped to poles. Thank you Ander for so generously sharing your beautiful Basque countryside with us - a forever memory……..Sonya & Jake.

It was such a pleasure for me as well to spend the day touring the Basque Region with you both, and I am so happy to read that you also keep fond memories of our day together. Hope to meet again!
