Time it right or it is mostly closed.

Lots of nice little shops and bars but they do keep to the siesta times and were closed from 12 to 4 in some cases.

Could keep going back here … to sit and sip a vino, to linger over a coffee and watch the world go by, or to enjoy a meal in a choice of restaurants. But go early!

It's great just to walk through the streets and alleys of this neighbourhood and discover buildings, curiosities and, of course, lots of bars where you can try pintxos of all sorts.

I visited it at the end of afternoon and night. It's beautiful but not amazing, There wasn't much movement (it was August) it had some tourists but no a big movement. Perhaps it's better during the day

We visited the old town, we ate pintxos, have drunk txacoli, is a Basque white wine. By visitbilbao.com we have a guided tour of the old town and the historical monuments. We advise all who do not know Bilbao visit and discover a different culture, wonderful people and a excellent gastronomy.

Walked around the old city with the family. Nice architecture, interesting and very friendly people. A nice break from larger tourist areas. Like most of "local" Spain, mostly tapas and pubs to eat with limited family restaurants. Still a nice half day.

Loved the old town area of Bilbao. Unlike other cities where the old part of town is a (nice) tourist trap, this place still functions as the heart and soul of the city. There are many pinxtos bars dotted around and all very reasonably priced. There's also a great music scene, some lovely shops and churches.

I was lucky enough to be taken around the old town several times by locals. Sunday's we went to the flower market by the river and then continued on to have 'rabas' (calamari) in the Casco Viejo. Standing on the special spot marked in the tiles to see the Virgin of the Begonia Church is one of many special magic... More
