Visited for a wander and enjoyed the experience. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to explore in narrow cobbled streets. We had delicious Iberian ham! There was a festival going on so very busy and bustling. Would have preferred to visit when it was quieter. Was pretty but having visited 'old towns' across Europe it wasn't one of my favourites.

With lots of shops and cafeterias, the old town seems like the heart of Bilbao. We went there pretty much every day for breakfast and just walking around. Lots of locals and tourists. The prices in the cafeterias varied a lot, but wine and pintxos were always fairly cheap and very good.

The casco vieja or old town is located by the river and provides opportunities for a pleasant stroll along winding cobbled streets past interesting architecture. The old town is an important tourist destination and contains many restaurants, bars and shops selling ‘typical’ local foods. We chose to walk around early in the day (before 11 am) to avoid crowds. This... More

These small streets are full of bars and restaurants where you can eat typical local food. Right next to the river there are is a tapas market.

The "7 calles" area is full of cafés, restautants, bars and people. There is always something going on and just walking around is good fun

Tiny streets with full of cafes, bars and restaurants to try the local pintxos. You can easily access the area by metro, bus or simply walk there. I wasn't that impressed when I compare for example, with San Sebastian Casco Viejo area, but still believe it's worth a visit.

The Casco Viejo of Bilbao is fairly big, and there is a lot of bars and restaurants. Normally bars at night tend to be more lively during Friday and Saturday nights. I recommend if you are planning to visit the Casco Viejo, to go during the day since there are more people and in my opinion it is more beautiful... More

This place is really old and vibrant. The streets are full of cafes and bars all full of people enjoying themselves. We caught the metro to get there and that was really easy. We wondered through the streets till we found a bar and we then sat and ate some wonderful food and drank ice cold beer. The place is... More

I am currently living in Vitoria-Gasteiz, which can boast with a very beautiful old town, so after visiting Bilbao0s casco viejo, I was not as impressed as I might have been, had I not seen Vitoria before. It's still nice and worth a visit though, but I somehow preferred the modern part of town, closer to the Guggenheim.

Been a few times now, it's a one of a kind. It has small narrow street, networking within its self. All beautiful buildings and every 20 steps there is either a bar, shop, ice cream shop, bar, and not just a bar, a Pintxos bar. A beautiful mystery of old town right in the middle of a modern city Highly... More
