I recommend doing this food tour with Patrizia Vitelli. She is fantastic and has the knowledge to explain every detail. You have the experience of visiting different restaurants in the city of Bilbao, both in the expansion and in the old town, introducing an immersion in the food, history, and culture of the city. I traveling solo, and this also was a plus to meet people.

Patrizia organizes a great Pintxos Walking Tour, all the great hot spots and hidden ones too. She's educated, fun spirited and speaks great English. I'd recommend starting with this tour at the beginning of your tip to Bilbao, so that you can re-visit your favorite neighborhoods and foodie spots.

A wonderful evening tasting delicious food, wine and cider selected by our guide Patrizia. We visited a variety of bars in the old and new parts of town and Patrizia's knowledge of good food and where to find it made it easy for our group to relax and get to know each other. A little history of each venue along the way led to interesting conversations. The tour was fun and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a delicious introduction to Bilbao!

I went on this tour in late January and had an awesome time! I thought this would be a great introduction to my short stay in Bilbao so booked a few weeks in advance for my first night in the city. Late January is a quiet time for tourism in Spain and by chance I ended up being the only participant on this tour!
The tour starts outside the Carlton Hotel, a well-known landmark in the city of Bilbao. It is a small city and easily walkable however I took an Uber from my hotel to the Carlton to save some time. Patrizia arrived on time and after a short introduction we began our tour, which involved walking from place to place around the city trying lots of different food!
Our first stop was La Viña del Ensanche where in addition to a glass of red wine I tried ham on a slice of bread and pork cheek with mashed potato and bread. This is one of the best known pintxos spots in Bilbao and is definitely a must visit!
We then continued to one of the famous pintxos streets, Calle Ledesma where we visited Promenade to try the famous Gilda, a skewer with peppers, olives, anchovies, cheese etc. Promenade had a wide variety of Gildas to choose from.
Our next stop was the Basquery, an interesting place that specialises in beer and bakery! Here we had a craft beer over a discussion about pintxos and Bilbao in general.
From here we walked across the river into the old town and continued to the Plaza Nueva of Bilbao, where we visited Gure Toki, a recent winner of the best pintxos award to try their award-winning cheese soup along with a glass of local txakoli white wine. We then hopped across to Sorginzulo just next door to try a calamari sandwich and a cod tosta, as well as some local apple cider. The cider in the Basque Country is very interesting as it is not carbonated!
We then continued to our last stop of the night, Bar Santa Maria to try a chorizo and a beer. From here the tour concluded and I made my way back to the hotel.
Overall this was a great tour which combined lots of interesting food and pintxos bars with a fun walking tour around the city. By the end of the night I was pretty full and didn't need any more food, however the tours ends in the heart of the old town so there are plenty of options for more pintxos or food if you wish to continue the night. Patrizia was an amazing guide who was happy to discuss local history and culture and was of course very knowledgeable about the food scene. I found this to be an excellent way to start my time in Bilbao and get an idea of what I wanted to experience more of during my stay. Highly recommended!

I took a tour with Patrizia together with another solo traveller. Patrizia brought us to some of the best pintxo bars and shared with us the specialties in each bar. It was really nice that there was a good mix of information on the history of the place and chatting in general. I would recommend this tour to anyone keen on learning more about Bilbao and Basque cuisine.

We loved our tour with Patrizia. She is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and charming. The tour is well organised with 8 stops for a variety of pinxtos. With her help we were able to taste pinxtos that we would not have been able to order ourselves. There was great variety between the more traditional and the more avant garde. The photos and notes that she sends you afterwards are a great service.

Excellent pinxtos tour. I was the only one on the tour and everything was individualised. Even on a day when it was pouring rain, really enjoyed my time. In particular, Patrizia was able to show me the classic beverages that is drunk by the people of Bilbao to accompany the food.

It was nice meeting you, Michael. You were alone on the tour made the experience very personal and I'm glad you had a good time. Wishing you to take a break back to the Basque Country.
You have my email for any recommendations, you know that. A giant hug ;)

We had an excellent visit with Patrizia. Travel difficulties meant that we arrived late but Patrizia was flexible and accommodating (luckily we were the only guests on this particular day). Patrizia was informative, well connected and had chosen the pinxtos bars we visited with care and attention. The pinxtos chosen covered a range of styles from the original Gilda all the way through to an almost artistic construction with salt cod for a forthcoming competition. Definitely recommended.

Patrizia was amazing, smart, friendly, fun, and a new best friend. I can assure you there is no one as engaging and smart as Patrizia. We were a group of 4 and we wandered through Bilbao learning all about Pinchos and Tapas, and all about Patrizia's wonderful life. She's a former attorney, turned tour guide and believe me this is her calling. She will teach you, laugh with you, feed you like crazy, and give you the best background on anything you'd like to know about Bilbao. Do not even consider anyone else, I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Wonderful time. Great food, very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We tasted both old and new style pinchos (pinxos), while our guide told stories of the bars and history. I have lived in the Basque country when travelling before, and personally can say this is an authentic experience with great food, drinks, conversation and education. Highly recommend you give it a try.
