Worth a visit to see what you do not see or get in the UK . The fish selection is amazing as are all the lovely market shops . Everything is such good value for money . Expert fish mongers on display .

Love the stalls filled with different sorts of food stuffs. This is a great place to pick up ingredients for cooking at home. Nothing is ready made to eat except for cheeses, fruit, and pastries. Really great place to purchase fresh fish, meat or fowl. Selection of cheeses are out of this world! There is a restaurant in site.

If you love fresh local food then this is the market to visit. It's an indoor market so suitable for all weathers and very clean with a wonderful selection of traditional Spanish foods. Don't go here if you want souvenirs.
Traders very helpful even allowing for communication difficulties and keen to give you a sample to try cheeses etc before you buy.

I was excited at the prospect of visiting “Spain’s best market “ on Monday morning at 8.30. Most stalls were closed.
My high hopes were dashed. After visiting the market at Narbonne I was expecting chefs cooking and fresh tapenade etc. meat and veges not enough to deserve such a high rating

Mercado El Fontan is a foodies dream!! The market is located in the older part of the city housed in a beautiful Victorian like building. There are many venders selling fresh meat, fish, cheeses, vegetables, etc. I wished I had been staying at a place with a kitchen so I could cook up a storm with all of the great products!! It was particularly nice to see locals buying their daily groceries. Definitely a must see when in Oviedo.

Stop in here early in the morning and check out the local offerings: dried white beans, chocolates, jams, etc. Watch out for the pigeons.

We went there to buy some local products before flying home. Easy to purchase the famous Asturian cheese, chorizo or jamon. When buying Cabrales cheese you can also look for membrillo - kind of dense sweet apple jam served with the cheese.

This is the place to come for your fresh foods. Also, gifts such as rings of sausage or cheeses would be better here if you don't need the fancy box and wrap. There is a grocery store, the mercadino, on the other side of the plaza fontan, that has the usual selection of dairy, household goods, etc.

We went twice to buy in of the stores selling cheese and cold cuts. In both visits we encountered very sociable sellers. The market has a section for seafood and fish. Very interesting products, and produce. Very festive too.
