Taste of the Camino de Santiago

Have you heard about the Camino de Santiago and even considered walking one of its itineraries (yes, there are multiple routes!)? But you do not have the possibility to take a few weeks off? Or are you doubting whether you are able to hike 20-30 km for multiple days in a row? This tour offers you the possibility to be a pilgrim for half a day by walking part (i.e. 12 kilometers) of the 'Camino Primitivo'. Along the way, I will share specific insights with you about the Asturian history, gastronomy and nature.

Hiking, eating and relaxing in an 18th century Spa near Oviedo

This experience gives you the opportunity to be a real Oventense (person from Oviedo) for a day, by doing something they love: walking a Senda Verde (green route), relaxing in an old Spa and enjoying a typical Asturian lunch!

You start in Parque de Invierno in the south of Oviedo. The route follows an old railway line, about which your guide tells you more during the hike. The car-free road starts in the park but soon leads through the Asturian countryside. You walk through old train tunnels and cross Asturias' most important river, the Nalon. During your hike the guide tells you more about the natural surroundings, history, culture and gastronomy of Asturias.

After 10k, you arrive at the Spa in Las Caldas where you spend 2.5 hours in its warm water and saunas. After this, you enjoy a well-deserved Menu del Dia (three-course menu) in one of the village's restaurants. Then, a private car brings you back to Oviedo.

Walking with Dinosaurs along Asturias' coast

The coast between Gijon and Ribadesella in Asturias is also called ‘Dinosaur Coast‘. This is because of the presence of many original dinosaur footprints and fossil bones from dinosaurs and other Jurassic reptiles.

During this tour your private guide will show you around the Jurassic Museum of Asturias, where you learn everything about Jurassic reptiles and dinosaurs in Asturias. Then, you will search for original dinosaur footprints during a short hike along the beautiful coast. You can walk back over the beach and even take a dip in the Cantabrian Sea if you like! Finally, your guide takes you on a stroll through beautiful fishermen village Llastres, where we will end the tour with a delicious lunch.

Guided tour to Tito Bustillo and Asturias' Jurassic Coast

This tour let you discover two main aspects of Asturias’ prehistory: prehistoric cave art and dinosaur fossils.

The paleolithic art discovered in the Tito Bustillo Cave is among Europe’s most spectacular cave art. We visit the most impressive “panel” with over 100 figures, among which the famous depictions of bovines, horses and deer. We also visit the nearby Tito Bustillo Cave Art Center. The center contains replicas of the other cave art. If time permits, we also visit the Ardines Cave.

Your guide also shows you around the Jurassic Museum of Asturias, where you learn everything about Jurassic reptiles and dinosaurs in Asturias. Then, you will search for original dinosaur footprints during a short hike along the beautiful coast.

Note: Since the itinerary depends on the availability of entrance tickets to the Tito Bustillo cave, the order of the places we’ll visit can change. We’ll inform you about the exact program after your reservation.

Debora was a fantastic guide for the El Camino Santiago!! She communicated with us before hand and kept us up to date. Explaining how to get to the cathedral could improve, but so minor in the whole experience. She was very knowledgeable about the Camino and sights along the way. I am 68 and in fair shape. The hike was a challenge, but she was very considerate and encouraging. I finished and it was an amazing experience. Plus, we had a beautiful day. Debora also had s walking stick for me that was a great help!

I arranged a private tour of Asturias with Debora in February 2020. I asked her to suggest a tour tailored for my 4 children whose ages range from 2 to 13. I have to say Debora is a perfect guide - she is very professional, child-oriented and professional in her field. We had a tour walking Dinosaurs which children enjoyed very much. Apart of the children's interest in dinosaurs at that time the welcoming attitude of Debora and her friendliness made the tour unforgettable. For anyone visiting Asturias, I would heartily recommend Debora as a guide.

Debora made the Taste of the Camino Santiago our best event in Spain. She met us promptly, went over the agenda and we were on our way. She found something in common or to personally connect upon with each of our group members. This experience commences at the beautiful Cathedral and you pass the metal gold colored scallops while in the city as you progress on the Primitivo section of the trail. Once in the countryside, you pass by the traditional scallop markers and religious chapels. Debora is very enthusiastic, intuitive and paced the group according to its needs and desires. She made sure we had water and she even brought a few surprise treats. At the end of route for the day on the trail, we insisted Debora stay with us for a light refreshment. Totally worth the time to do this trip with Debora!

I thoroughly enjoyed my “taste” of the Camino de Santiago. Debora is a warm and friendly person, and she made it feel more like a hike with friends than meeting people for the first time. She was also very encouraging when the trail was a bit difficult for me. The experience was unique and special. If you are interested in the Camino de Santiago but only have a short time in Oviedo, this experience would be perfect for you.
