We saved this experience for our last full day in Asturias after several days of enjoying company with family and friends. This trip was just for the two of us, an opportunity to relax ourselves as much as possible before the long trip home, and it did not disappoint!
First and foremost, our guide, Debora, was a delight. She’s friendly, accommodating, outgoing and very knowledgable about the trail and the surrounding country leading from the Parque Invierno to Las Caldas, the posh 18th Century Spa. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with and getting to know her through the morning and afternoon and we kept her contact information at the end of the day to possibly reconnect with her when we return to Spain in the future.
Now, please note for those who don’t hike often. This was a three-hour walk. We left Parque Invierno at 9:30am and arrived at the doors of the spa just before 12:30pm. If you’re not used to walking long distances, you may want to limber up and do a little work on your fitness before making your reservation — the entire trail is paved and there’s no cross-country hiking, but it might still be a challenge, especially if your feet aren’t used to walking for that long!
Now, once you get to Las Caldas, the luxury can begin. The staff is friendly, the facilities are marvelous and state-of-the-art while still respectful of the site’s long history. The steam room-cold bath-sauna experience was probably my favorite part, but the heated pools and the terrace for lounging and enjoying the view are also extraordinary. You’ll get two hours to enjoy it all — plenty of time.
All in all, we loved our time on this experience. Highly recommend!
