Mondays are a bit quiet
Sep 2019
Everything was closed, but we enjoyed strolling the streets and looking at the boats on the pier. When we returned in the evening, some places were open and much more interesting.

Delightful atmosphere in which to meander.
Sep 2019
Located between the harbour and the Playa de San Lorenzo, this historic little Quarter has ancient buildings, alleyways and sculptures, as well as a diversity of bars and restaurants. The imposing statue of Pelagius commemorates this 8th Century King of Asturias whose deeds are legendary.

Cider or vinegar?
Aug 2019 • Friends
I was served a bottle of cider that tasted like vinegar. I visited the place with a local friend who I contacted through couchsurfong. He recommended this place and took me there.

The cider was closer to vinegar than apple juice. My friend told the bartender, who did not believe him. The bartender even questioned my friend’s knowledge on Asturias cider. We decided to go to the bar next door. After a while the owner approached us to offer us our money back.

Although I appreciated the owner/manager coming to us I would have expected the waiter offer an exchange to us as soon as we said there was something wrong with the drink.

Rock and "sidrina"
Jul 2019 • Couples
Such a lovely place. I have recently read that this is an old rock and roll place and I guess you can still feel that when you walk by this millenary neighborhood. Later the "promenade" we have a "sidrina", as they call it. We loved it.

Quaint Old Town Area
Sep 2018 • Couples
The streets of this barrio are interesting to walk through, with lots of shops and cafes all over. However, we also saw the the effects of the poor economy of recent years, with a number of store fronts and cafes being closed permanently. Nonetheless, a nice place to stop, have a drink and a bite to eat.

Historic Old town.
Sep 2018 • Friends
A relatively small area but it is the historic old town and a must to stroll round with lots of photo opportunities.
Easy to get about with lots good bars and cafes in the area.
On a headland between the two big beaches and nearby marina.
A must do in this vibrant City. Popular for weddings in the area.

Nice place to stroll
Aug 2018 • Couples
Loads of restaurants and bars in each square. It's a very nice quiet place with some shade to escape the beach heat. Highly recommend if you are in Gijon already.

Smaller than it appears on the map.
Jun 2018 • Couples
Took a walk starting at.the Marina and was amazed at how compact everything was including the cliff top walk, batteries, sculptures, etc. Very touristy.in that so many bars & restaurants but pleasant in June. Who knows July/August.

Charming small town by the ocean
Oct 2017 • Couples
If you arrive in Gijon, make sure to take at least 1 hour to get acquainted with the old town that makes it a charming place to visit. The port is also part of the old town, and from there you can wander the narrow streets with old houses that are still inhabited. You can find a lot of nice cafes/sidrerias/restaurants and little shops, where one can spend some time. a stop on the way should be Plaza Mayor, center of all traditional Spanish towns. Take a look at the great photos posted by other travelers and they will convince you to include Gijon as your destination.

Wander round
Jul 2017 • Couples
The Cimadevilla neck of the city is great to walk about in, with the narrow streets of the old town, the big cider bottle sculpture, and the port area all points of interest. There are also fantastic views of the sea and the coast.

We had only one hour to walk round before our bus, but saw quite a lot.
