A nice monument to a great individual. Watch out for the steps which whilst few are very steep. The platform gives really good opportunities for photographers to take pictures.

The Monument to Goya is located at the Plaza del Pilar. It is close to the Cathedral and the Lonja. The sculptures were the work of the Catalan artist Federico Mares, who also directed the building of the monument. There are sculptures of two women in typical dress of the 18th century and on a pedestal is the figure of Goya. Goya is standing with legs crossed and has a palette and brush in his hands. Goya was a native of Aragon. The monument was finished in 1908. On the wall is a phrase of Goya which says, “La fantasía abandonada de la razón produce monstruos, pero unida a ella es la madre de las artes”. The translation is: Fantasy without reason produces monsters, but united with reason it is the mother of the arts.

There's no way you can hide from Goya in Zaragoza! He's everywhere! People are very proud of their famous fellow countryman!

So one of the cental square's decoration is the monument of great painter! It's interesting because not only Francisco Goya himself is part of the monument. Author added two majas sitting on the floor next to Goya's feet.

It's not only the monument to an artist, but to all of his art!

The Goya monument is one of a number round Spain and this gets lo a little in the Plaza de Pilar. It is good that Goya is recognized in Zaragoza as he was born in Aragon in 1746 and was regarded as one of the masters of art in the late 17th and early 18th century.

So the title is a joke, and while I'm not sure why one would review a monument, it is worth noting, for those who may not be aware, that Goya is one of the single most important artists in the history of Spain, working in the early 19th Century during the Napoleonic era, and he had a checkered but celebrated life's story about which books have been written and films made. We ran out of time to see the Goya art museum on this particular trip, so that's on the list for next time.

He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th century. He also painted inside the Lady of the Pillar which is also in the plaza where his statue stands.

Well it's Goya on a concrete plinth. However it's nicely done and is located in a great plaza. There's plenty else to see as well.

This is a very beautiful monument. These romantic figures are a fitting tribute to Spain’s most famous Romantic artist.

Take time to look at the detail cast into the figures.

These are a collection of statues on the plaza near the Basilica. There are some chairs you can sit & watch the world go by. Not somewhere I'd visit to just see the statues, but if walking past they are worth a look.

This monument is a group of statues representing the most popular Goya characters painted by Goya. It is interesting and nice to see. Location is Plaza del Pilar (most representative area in Zaragoza) so very much recommended this visit.
