Perhaps not as spectacular as the markets in Barcelona , this was a clean sensible local market servicing residents needs. It was clean, open and the food looked good.

A beautiful building really well kept. A very good selection of vendors, fish, meats, fruit and vegetables and spices and sweets. Locals shop here so it must be good. A very interesting place to get a’taste’ of Zaragoza.

Typical Spanish central market. Great spot to check out food. It's Zaragoza,, so there aren't as many tourists as other places and this is a genuine market for locals to shop and relax. Some live music and tapas.

Given the era, it was bound to be ornate in design. And so it is. A wonderful façade leads to an interior that is equally decorative.

A fine ceiling supported on embellished iron arches is just one of the attractive features.

But of course it is food in all its healthy freshness that is paramount. Stall after stall fulfils this.

The market is smaller than many of the central markets we’ve visited in other cities, but it has what most people might need. I expected more fruit and vegetable stands. For that matter, more of every kind of stand. It was nice to walk through since we were walking by, but I wouldn’t make a separate trip to see it.

I thought this was an old station building, but it's actually a historical market that has been reopened.
It has an excellent selection of fresh vegetables, meat and fish (including Bacalao of course). I bought some mandarins, which were delicious.
There are also a few stalls for odds and sods, and tables for food and drink to consume.

I visited this market several times while in Zaragoza. The facade is very attractive and the exposed iron work inside is quite dramatic. The lighting inside is great - very bright and exceptionally clean. There are numerous vendors selling fresh meats, chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc. In the center are several eateries offering tapas, sandwiches, empanadas and beverages.

Our daughter and her husband, who live in Zaragoza, said the newly renovated Mercado Central opened this past Thursday (6 February) and is quite beautiful! We’re looking forward to seeing it on our next visit.

We actually went looking to go see this Mercado, but when we got there we saw that it was closed. The building itself is an iron and glass structure. It's nice on the outside, and am sure after the renovation it will be super on the inside too.

This Zaragoza's Central Market is a lovely building but unfortunately under renovation so the market itself is closed here. I believe they have a temporary location but I didn't make the effort to go.
I did find the market's architecture to be picture worthy so I snapped a picture and continued on. When I return to this city it will be one of the first places I'll go because I enjoy seeing public markets wherever I travel plus if there are lunch counters the food is usually quite good and inexpensive!
