This large square is dominated by the Metropol Parasol sculpture, which is an interesting structure that you go to the top and enjoy a good view of the city. This alone makes the square worth a visit.

In fairness, it isn't much of a square, but has plenty of bars, restaurants, etc plus a busy shopping area and is in contrast to the old town.

Our tour guide walked us past these huge wacky mushrooms the first evening we arrived in Seville and I thought I might as well ascend, mainly ‘cos they offer a free drink included in the price of the ticket! (more of which later). Actually it’s a really great thing to do on your first day in Seville simply because you can see pretty much everything in the city that you're going to visit over the next few days, so you'll be well orientated from the start. You can see the expo buildings, the rocket, bridges over the river, churches galore and of course the cathedral. It’s surprising how close the cathedral is. Go just before sunset and you’ll get a fabulous view of the sun dipping behind the hills to the west of the city. You’ll be surrounded by courting couples, soaking up the romantic atmosphere, but hey - you might just be one half of a courting couple yourself!
Actually these wacky constructions aren’t made of concrete as I first assumed, but from giant sheets of wood, so if you’re of nervous disposition, you might want to stay at ground level and leave ascending to the dizzy heights of the viewing area to your more adventurous chums. After dark, the view from the ground is boosted by coloured lighting, but the view from up top is worth steeling yourself and your nerves for!
You'll find a basic cafe up at top, but you'll have no luck asking for the free drink, 'cos the offer is for a bar at ground level - took us a while to find it, but if you really want your freebie (we did!) descend to street level, walk around the base of the mushrooms to the south west corner of the plaza, and you’ll find the bar that accepts the vouchers, facing the street.
On the way to & fro the lift, you’ll pass some quite extensive Roman ruins, inaccessible (at least while we were there…) but visible through glass panels. Its a shame they don’t make more of these as they look quite interesting…

The structure is well placed in Sevilla, and offers brilliant 360' views across the city. There is a pathway along the top that costs €3 to access. The ticket also includes a 'free drink'. This can be used in the bar along the pathway on top of the structure, though it actually just gives you €1 off anything, not a free drink. This isn't an issues though, as even at the full price, a glass of wine is just €2!

I however got a bit/very frustrated at not being able to find the entrance. I walked around under the structure for AGES trying to find the entrance which I was sure was hidden. After more time than I will ever admit to, we found a huge sign at the bottom of the stairs and escalators, saying the entrance is downstairs(!). Anyway, don't make the same mistake I did, and you will really enjoy the incredible views this has to offer.

The square itself is dull and can even be dangerous with the usual pickpocket suspects walking around, but if you head there make sure you head to the top of the Setas, the amazing wood structure that resemble gigantic mushrooms. It's tricky to find the entrance, so head to the basement floor, buy a ticket and head up. The views from the top are well worth the admission price (3 euros), and you ticket can be exchanged for a drink in the ground floor once you head down again.

for 3 euros you ride the elevator up and walk around on top of the amazing structure. We loved it! Entrance also included a drink (once back on firm soil, at the bottom of the umbrellas)

Famously expensive wooden structure built over Roman ruins with no real purpose other than to fill the space. There is a rooftop walkway and bar (and a basement museum) but opening times seem to be a bit erratic. If you are a photographer, the midday sun produces interesting shadows on the podium level and at night the structure is floodlit for more interesting images.
