A remarkable sequence of ornate side chapels is one of the hallmarks of this gorgeous holy place. Impressively, building began in 1266 and it was imbued with the Mudejar Gothic style.

Significantly damaged in the major 1755 earthquake it was rebuilt and given a Baroque vision. Fabulous columns and arches in light stone lead along the nave to a wonderful high altar that is brimming with ornamentation.

It was wonderful viewing each of the subsidiary chapels, all with captivating exquisiteness.

We had a lovely walk through Triana that included a stop in this beautiful church. Two older gentleman from the parish were taking the small admittance fee. One of them engaged our teenage daughters in a casual tour in Spanish that was just delightful to watch. He was so proud of his church and wanted to share it with them in a wonderfully gracious manner.

The Church of Santa Ana is located in the Barrio of Triana and is the oldest church in Seville, having been built in 1280. The ornamentation of the church does not call much attention, but it is a miracle that the church is still in use today and has been preserved over the centuries.

Built by Alfonso X (1221-84) in 1276, shortly after the Christian reconquest of the city. He dedicated it to St.Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, for curing him of an eye disease. According to local legend, children baptised in the font here were bestowed with the gifts of flamenco singing and dancing.

The Church of Santa Ana is the oldest church in Seville and was constructed by architects from Burgos between 1276 and 1280. King Alfonso X founded the church. The construction took time and most of the church was constructed during the time of Pedro I in the 14th century. Unfortunately the earthquake of 1755 caused major damage to the church and it has to be reconstructed.
What calls attention to the church is that the walls of the outside of the church have several ceramic tile murals showing Christ and the Virgin Mary in different stations of the cross. The main altarpiece has sculptures by Nufro de Ortega and Nicolas de Jurate, created in 1540. There is more artwork beside this. There are several scenes in another altarpiece that show the life of the Virgin Mary, San Joaquin, and Santa Ana, done by the Flemish artist Pedro de Campaña. The Santissimo Cristo del Socorro was created by Andres de Ocampo in 1620, while the Lauda Sepulcral was created by Iñigo Lopez in 1503.

While wandering around the Triana district in September 2018 (not able to put correct visit time in selection), we came across this delightful, beautiful church.
We were lucky to find it open and be able to spend time in quiet contemplation out of the hot summer sun.
The church was the first christian church built in Seville. It is kept in pristine condition, filled with beautiful statues and art work.
We were so pleased to discover this church tucked away on a quiet street away from the usual crowds.

An interesting church. Building started in the 13th century and there have been a lot of renovations since. There is a crypt which holds the church’s treasures.

This is a pretty church set back from the waterfront dating from 1266. We included it within a walk around Triana and were pleasantly surprised. It cost 2€ each which we were more than happy to pay towards the upkeep. The information leaflet is only in Spanish but it contains a lot of information.

When we visited over half the church (including the museum in the crypt) were inaccessible. We were still charged the full admission which was 2 euros. It is not a lot of money but we really had seen everything after 10 minutes, maybe if you were religious you might get more from it. Feel they should have waived the admission price or discounted it.

Very much enjoyed visiting this church. Lots of interesting things to see and the man at the entrance was very helpful. He opened up the crypt for us to see the items kept in the which were very beautiful. They asked €2 each, not sure if that was the fee or suggested donation, but we paid it anyway as they were obviously using the money to do repairs.
