Oh how lovely to be abroad again, and this was our first visit on a trip from a cruise ship from Cadiz and worth the drive.
Beautiful square. Most of it was taken up with an aircraft display celebrating 100 years of Spanish air force, but still lovely.
Seville generally easy to walk around, and we did so without a map and found our way back to the coach.
Do check to see if you need to book to get in to some places. You can buy on the gate but was a 2 hour wait for entrance so we had to pass.

A premier Plaza named for Convento de San Francisco is a pleasure to spend time in. With marvellous architecture all around it is rewarding to stroll and admire.

Foremost is one façade of the exquisite City Hall. Banco de España with an impressive sculpture of Mercury in front is another highlight.

Many cafes and eateries abound, providing relaxing sustenance. Teatro Cajasol is an ornate and major performance venue.

The San Francisco Square is probably the main square in central Sevilla.
I guess that others have already written enough about the square itself and the Town Hall.
During the Christmas season, the square is wonderfully illuminated by a huge tree and angels.

Great architecture all around the plaza. A great way to experience it is to sit and relax at one of the many outdoor cafes an enjoy a very inexpensive glass of wine

A very nice square with the Banco de Espanha at one end, which has 2 trees either side with the foliage cut to form a cube. The square has an historic feel and is worth a visit.

We sat and had a glass of wine and enjoyed watching all the activity. Wonderful sculptured trees surround the square.

If we didn't take the free walking tour with Heart of Seville, we wouldn't have found out the historical info on the plaza.

We wouldn't have noticed the different phases of the building and who's who on the sculpture.

After knowing the truth, you would want to take pictures of the building at the Plaza. Otherwise, it is just another row of buildings.

The Plaza de San Francisco is where the City Hall is located. It was the heart of the city of Seville in the 16th century and was the main plaza or plaza mayor. The civil power of the city was always located here. This was where they held bullfights, processions of Holy Week, and the celebration of Corpus Christi, as well as many other celebrations. After the Reconquest it was known as the Plaza de San Francisco. Starting in 1812 it was renamed as Plaza de la Constitucion. Because of politics the plaza was renamed several times. Finally in 1980 it was finally renamed the Plaza de San Francisco, which is its name today.
