- permia64,752 contributionsAstonishingReplacing earlier places of worship including a mosque and its collapsed predecessor, it certainly leaves a lasting impression. Although with a façade that is relatively unadorned it is only in entering that the full Baroque takes hold of the senses. It is truly an astonishing sight. Renowned sculptures are here, including the great San Cristóbal y el Niño by Juan Martínez Montañés. Exquisite ornamentation is everywhere. A very powerful statement regarding the Catholic Church in relation to Protestantism and other faiths.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 29, 2024

Opulent artwork everywhere. The vault on the lower level provides some fascinating insight into the history of Seville. The church was included with the Catedral ticket otherwise it is €7.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 4, 2024

Likewise, this was also a Mosque converted after the Reconquesta into a Church. Amazing Baroque interiors with a highly decorated altar and many side Chapels. The Church is packed on a tiny square, so you don't anticipate its size until you enter it.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 8, 2024

It was built between 1674-1712 in Baroque style on the foundations of several earlier churches. The bell tower was formerly a minaret. We bought a combined ticket, but they didn't ask for it, we could get in for free on Sunday. The interior is very beautiful, richly decorated, gilded and silvered. It is quieter and more peaceful, not as crowded as the cathedral.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 13, 2024

Our Cathedral ticket also allowed us to visit this church. Supposedly, one can do it the other way round, as the ticket from this church allows one to also see the Cathedral and one can skip the queue there. The fine Baroque carving and gilding represent a real contrast to the more austere Gothic Cathedral

This church was built on the remains of the Ibn Adabbas mosque, an exquisite example of Baroque architecture. Immediately upon entering, we were struck by the large interior space, dominated by a spectacular high altar, richly decorated with gold and intricate sculptures narrating biblical stories and patron saints. The vaults and domes are frescoed with lively religious scenes that catch the eye and invite reflection. Each side chapel, dedicated to different saints, is a work of art in its own right, with paintings and sculptures that deserve careful observation. There are still elements of the previous structure, such as the ablution patio. The crypt is located below the main level of the church, and is a burial place for important religious figures and nobles of the city. It is accessible through a modest staircase, which leads visitors into a surprisingly intimate space rich in history. The crypt is characterized by low vaults and a meditative atmosphere, with walls adorned with niches containing tombs and funeral monuments.
Some areas display intricate marble works and religious sculptures paying tribute to the deceased.
In addition to its role as a burial place, the crypt of San Salvador is an important archaeological site that tells the multi-layered history of Seville. Remains and foundations dating from the era of the previous Almohad mosque are visible.
The crypt particularly fascinated me, I highly recommend it. It is the second largest church in Seville (after the cathedral), the entrance fee with audio guide is 3.50 euros, but if you visit the cathedral first it is included in the ticket. We included it with the Seville pass. Located near the cathedral

We used our online combo ticket with Seville Cathedral to enter this church. At 11 am, mid-week in October, there was no line-up at the door and there were only a few visitors inside. This church is about a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral when using the main street where the City Hall is located. There are some stairs to climb before reaching the entrance door.
The pink façade of San Salvadore Church makes it a stand out on the street so it is easily seen and provides a clue that the décor of this church is baroque in nature. The church is lovely inside, but then I tend to favor baroque churches. Quiet, not overly large, bright and clean, and very attractive with its many gilt decorated altars and religious figures. The main altar is just beautiful! Framed under a high arch, this altar seems to rise from the floor to the ceiling and is filled with elegant religious figures, both gilted and polychromed, that seem to be in motion with their outflung arms and bent legs. Two large angels hold aloft 2 silver censers on each side of this altar. Above them is an oval ceiling painting with religious figures surrounding a dove, all done in wonderful soft colors. In front of them is a simple modern looking altar holding several white tapers.
Other altars in this church, placed along the sides and at the end of the 2 side aisles, had similar polychromed religious figures with surrounding gilt décor. These also seemed to be nestled between curved arches which provided a frame for each. What I liked about these altars was that each had a central theme illustrated by the large religious figures placed in its middle such as a crowned Virgin Mary, Jesus riding a donkey, a crucified Jesus, a risen Christ.
Two other altars showed the figures of the first Spanish King Ferdinand who had conquered the Muslims and Christianized Spain and the 2 martyrs and “protectors of Seville”, Justa and Rufina. Each of these had an info board to explain their significance.
The white fluted arched columns and white washed walls certainly made the gilt altars stand out. The vaulted ceiling was plain – no tracery. High celestorial windows placed on the second level did have colored glass but allowed bright light to come through too. Unlike gothic catholic churches, this one did not have stained glass windows.
To see vintage carved and painted religious figures in the church’s “attic” (free), use the stairs at the end of the right side aisle. Public washroom is available at the end of the left side aisle.
I was glad we had visited this church before the Seville Cathedral which is over the top with gilt altars everywhere.

Having visited Seville Cathedral we were allowed free entry to The Church of the Divine Savior in Seville with the same admission ticket. It is one of the most important churches in Seville and has a rich history. Besides its baroque architecture, you can admire the stunning artistry depicting the Transfiguration of Christ behind the main alter and the many decorative altarpieces, especially 'God is Love' by Juan de Mesa and 'Jesus of the Passion' by Martinez Montanes. There is also a small museum. Definitely worth a visit.

Once I entered the door I was stunned by the magnificent interior of this boroque church from the 16th century.
I would find it impossible to do justice to describing the actual detail but suffice to say, it is well worth the entry fee.
I would rate it a better experience than the fabulous Cathedral.

The Church of the Divine Savior was small but exquisite. If you’ve ever wondered what happened to all of the gold that was brought back from the New World, look no further than Spain’s churches! They are lavished with gold! We purchased a ticket that allowed admission to both this church and the Cathedral (8 Euros for two senior admissions). Don't miss this jewel in Sevilla.

this is a must visit church in seville. the churches in seville tend to be a bit bare in the paintings you associate with churches in Italy for example but the altar works in this church is just incredibile. we managed to enter the church during a service which restricted out movements unfortunately, however, in every other occasion that we passed this church it was closed.

This church is so beautiful. There is so much gold inside that all the altars are gold. You do need to pay to go inside to visit. If you go outside and take a right at the small street, on the side of the church is a tiny entrance that will get you back into the church for a small donation in order to sit and pray to the cross of Jesus. I had to ask the gal at the front entrance how to get there. Worth visiting

This church’s exterior is humble and uninviting, but don’t let that stop you. This is like a box of chocolates; once you open it, it is most delicious. The interior here is a work of art. The chapels and the altar are most beautiful. It is a square church which is most unusual. The staff is lovely and will help you in any way they can. If you purchased a ticket for the Cathedral, you get free access to this one as it is included in the price. Make sure not to miss the museum here. Go early to avoid the crowds and tour guides.

The church is only a short walk from the Cathedral and your ticket receipt will provide free entry to this stunningly beautiful Baroque church. The church was built in the late 17th century on the site of an old mosque with many additions and alterations taking place over the years. The extravagant gilded interior is a treasure trove of Sevillian Baroque details and lavish artwork. Highlights are two spectacular alter pieces adorning the sanctuary, the soaring dome, an 18th century organ, and 16th century Sacristy. It also has a courtyard with orange trees. Outside you will notice it's ornate facade glows pink in the late afternoon light.

Salve! Acquistando il biglietto per la Cattedrale e per la Iglesia del Salvador, è possibile visitare i due siti in giorni differenti? Oppure il biglietto è valido per un solo giorno? Grazie

We booked the tickets of the Cathedral on Dec.29, and noticed that the tickets also allow us the access to Iglesia del Salvador. Due to our schedule, we plan to go to the Iglesia del Salvador on Dec.28. Is it possible? Or are the tickets only available for the same day?
Written December 17, 2018
I think unfortunately, it's only an appointed date.
Please negotiate at Cathedral.

Salve. Ho comprato online il biglietto combinato Cattedrale+Giralda+El Salvador. Posso visitare la chiesa di El Salvador il giorno prima della data riportata sul biglietto? Grazie.
Hello. I bought online the ticket "Catedral, Giralda y Salvador". could I visit the Church of El Salvador the day before tha date printed on the ticket? Thank you in advance.
Written April 1, 2018
No, da quello che mi risulta bisogna visitare tutto lo stesso giorno ma è fattibilissimo.
No, it is not possible, anyway you can visit everything the same day because one day it's enough.
Written April 9, 2018
If you buy tickets at Colegial del Salvador for Salvador and the Cathedral at the same time must you visit both sites on the same day or can you visit Salvador in afternoon and then the Cathedral the following day ?

Ciao, vorrei sapere se l'audioguida a cui fa riferimento Giovanni B. si può prendere lì o se faceva parte di un tour particolare. Grazie

Arrivo un po' in ritardo con la risposta e mi scuso.
No non fa parte di un tour guidato, si prende all'ingresso e non si paga .
Buon viaggio

Are the tickets from Del Salvador valid for the Cathedral? Got the information, but not confirmed!
Written August 31, 2017
If you buy the combined ticket then yes! If you buy the ticket from Del Salvador then you can also skip the line at the cathedral which is great. You use the same entrance as individuals buying a ticket but can go directly to the entrance. Definitely do the cathedral second so that you can take advantage of this line skipping! Enjoy!
