What a beautiful small church in a great lived in neighborhood. They say the statue of Mary has real tears...well I went in to see for my self...no tears. It is a beautiful statue. The church is very moving..recommend as a must see. The museum is also interesting.

You can take the bus here and see La Virgen de la Macarena. She is lovely, and the only drawback was that the museum was closed that day.

It is a beautiful church, with its neobarroque decoration, and the famous Virgin of Hope of Macarena, personally I do not like the fact that all statues of Blessed Virgin Mary are crying but that is how she was represented in that time. And it is really a beautiful and detailed representation of the statue itself and the altar. There... More

This is a very historical and interesting Basilica which is a favorite of many of the locals. Our guide provided a very interesting guided tour and we could feel her passion when she talked of the significance and history of the Basilica. I want to come back during the festivities of Holy Week.

Lovely church with a little museum that is not to be missed. Showcased are all the ornate barges that carry the Virgin on Holy week, the dress and many more interesting ornaments.

I'm not a Catholic and I have always been a little uneasy about the opulent display of statuary and gilding to honour the Virgin. The basilica is a 20th century building to house the vast statue of Mary that goes 'walkabout' through Seville in Holy Week. Suspend your rationalistic questioning of whether this is the way wealth should be used... More

I'd read that the streets around this basilica were lovely so came for a half day to discover. this church is lovely, all gold and decorative inside and has a family feel to it. at weekend you can go through to the back, and walk up behind the alter to see the statue of the lady of the church close-up.... We did a quick walk-by during a tour that we were taking with feel the city tours and the facade of this church is amazing beautiful and gives a false sense of the church behind it. Don't miss the fishing rods that tie it back to its original location back in the barrio of Santa Cruz.

The Basilica of La Macarena has a statue of the Virgin Mary that is venerated by the people of Seville and they like to visit this church all the time to pray to the Virgin Mary. The statue is paraded around during Holy Week.
