The location of this bridge is at a point where in the past the river was blocked from continuing. Early 1990s (as part of the prestigious Expo 1992 project) it was decided to restore part of the old river arm. Also the railwaytracks on the eastside of the old riverbed were removed. A new railwaystation was built further towards the east (Santa Justa station).

Quite extraordinary and costly to first restore a riverbed and then build new bridges over it... By the way, the old river arm still has a dead end (now 4 km north at Alamillo).

In contrast to Barqueta bridge the Puente del Cristo de la Expiracion is easily accessible to pedestrians. Great they have placed tarps over the pedestrian zone, as it can be bloody hot on the bridge.

Puente del Cristo de la Expiracion is a bit different from many other bridges. This one actually has covers to protect pedestrians from the heat! A great idea indeed! These covers are the tarpaulin type which is becoming very common these days, providing shade, particularly in children's playgrounds and other places. The bridge was built in 1991. The Seville International Expo was held in 1992. Many other projects were also complete in conjunction with this due to the Expo. The name of the bridge comes from a nearby church of the same name.

A distinctive bridge in the vicinity of Sevilla Tower. We came here on the HOHO bus.

The bridge has a pieces of white covering to protect pedestrians from the heat.

We saw this bridge from the river tour and went right under the bridge This bridge has some type of large canvas coverings that look like large umbrellas. It covers the entire bridge in many separate pieces. It is a beautiful bridge that will take you to across the river to the island on the other side.
