This is a photo of what the mural was like....now painted over.....sadly. Now it is just a plain white wall.

Actually I didn't know who Joe Strummer was but two days in a row we saw beautiful mural on the wall of the Colegio Santo Domingo de Granada area. So we made a stop and took some pictures. The address of Placeta Joe Strummer is at Cuesta Escoriaza, 31, 18009 Granada. When you walk from this small plaza down along "Calle Vistillas de los Angeles" and then to the right, "Cuesta del Caidero", you will find the beautiful mural. It worths visit.

Read about why Granada had recognized Joe and his work within the Community just wanted to pay my respects to a true legend when the UK and new generation had forgotten what punk was and how it changed not only the 70 s 80s and present day

I had no idea that this little piece of my youth was here in Granada until my partner spotted it in tiny writing right on the edge of our tourist map. As a once massive Clash fan I just had to make a special trip to see Joe in the city he so clearly loved and felt at home in. The square is tiny, quiet and bare with just a little plaque bearing its name and some music notes. What a special place though. It felt strangely surreal and definitely sad but I'm glad I went. Spent the rest of my holiday wondering if he had visited the places I was seeing and what he had thought about them.

A true Rock & Roll legend, Joe Strummer passed away far, far too soon.

The Clash, should be, would be, their generations stadium rock giants - If they had wanted, If they hadn't gone their own ways.

But, what a brilliant, massive, legacy of substance - trail blazers, that brought together rock, reggae and funk, reflecting London and the Worlds multi cultural magnificence, it's positive potential !

40 years on, from the heady, crazy, electric, buzzing, exciting days of 1977, sat on the plazas wall, I opened my minds vault, and memories came flooding back to me -

A brilliant Clash gig at the Lyceum in the Strand, chasing and being chased by Teddy Boys and Rockers, up n down Margate seafront promenade, on a Bank Holiday weekend.

A mad n' marvelous (innocence of youth) faith that we could n' would, change the world for the better in a heartbeat.

Ripping, tearing, painting Oxfam rags, to produce pure Punk, topped off with crazy colour hair, brothel creepers, plastic sandals, Doc M's, stripey pyjamas, winkle pickers.......

All that energy, generated on stage, large as life on the street, captured on vinyl by the Clash !!!

From London Calling, to Rock The Casbah, and the superb cover of Police & Thieves, the Clash nailed it !!!

Mr Strummer, punk poet lyricist extraordinaire, captured the moment, the time, the magic, the energy, the optimism, a version of the truth I could recognise !!!

A tad choked up, I remembered so many Joes and Joanna's, that didn't make it this far...... Bless Joe, bless 'em all !!!

The plaza is home to handsome, mature pine trees, that provide shade, and a tad of natures majesty.

Sitting there, I suddenly became aware of songs in the air.....Birds calling, and they were wee Firecrests, darting to and fro feeding in the pines.
With a fire red stripe, running across their heads (hence the name) I watched them with a smile.....With their mini mohican hairdo's, surely they are a punk poets angels, forever in the trees, the breeze, timeless like Joe Strummer's songs.

The plaza is a short walk from the stunning Alhambra Palace, en route superb graffiti art is a pleasure to be enjoyed.

A fountain at the Plaza, offers crystal clear cool drinking water, most welcome after a wander thru glorious Granada.

So glad I paid a visit, paid my respects, thank you Joe Strummer, for the songs, the music, the inspiration !!!

After visiting Joe Strummer plaza, I made my way to the Albayzin area (via Alhambra) Where buskers filled the air with music, a wacky pack of dreadlocks, hippy punks and allsorts..........

.... I sat back in a terrace bar al fresco style, enjoying the talented street musicians tunes and thought.......

......Yep, the beat goes on !!!

Cheers Joe !!!

The square was a mess. The plaque was gone. The wall was tumbling down. A real shame. Not a single sign indicating where we were. None of the locals we asked knew what the square was called.

Didn't see the mural (where is it?) but Placeta (place?) is in a nice quiet spot with great views. Kind of place I guess Joe would appreciate. Spanish Bombs!

Took a while to find the place. Has the original plaque been stolen. It is the place but different plaque on wall, shame if it has.

Terrible. An international rock figure does NOT deserve this ruse. Painful, sad.

Disappointing, Joe Strummer deserved a real nod, looks horny.
