Lorca "Villages" Tour: If you have ever encountered a play or poem by Federico Garcia Lorca, this is the tour for you. It follows the trajectory of Lorca’s life through the surrounding country homes and landscapes of Granada from which his thoughts and feelings grew—and to which they constantly returned. The itinerary has been chosen with a deep knowledge of the resonance between Lorca and the family, land, nation, and people that he wove together into a new awareness of itself. My tour guide Alain González Abad expertly paced the day. The details he offered of particular houses and rooms and landscapes were well placed, gracefully building a backroads view of Granada as well as Spanish history and culture. His highlighting of the intersections between Lorca and changes in the Spanish economy and government across time imparted a sense of both fervent life and looming peril. These strands would together lead to tragic ends. The tour itself concludes with a revelatory coda, well befitting the warm, gracious spirit of Alain and the experience of the tour.

This was our first visit to Granada, temperatures were topping at 44 degrees when we met with Alberto for an English speaking Red Umbrella tour with a group of about 20 tourists.

Alberto was very engaging, funny and informative. He had a degree in history and was born in Granada. He kept us in the shade and gave in depth explanations about the history of Granada in a manner that engaged with both my teenage daughters and adults alike.

2 hours flew by and we left with a real understanding of local history from Roman times to present day.

Despite his recommendation we did avoid sampling the local Sacrimontey omelette - (testacle and brain of pork!). We did sample the Ysla Piononos though, a lovely local cake.

Red umbrella tours are free, we paid a tip of €20 for our family of four but worth more.

Thanks Alberto 🇪🇸

Nacho led small group tours of Albaicin and Sacromonte, each almost 3 hours long. He was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history and culture of Grenada. Each tour took us on uphill hikes with spectacular views of the city and Alhambra. SInce the group was small and Nacho was amenable, there was lots of opportunity to ask questions and have discussion. This was among the best tours ever.

We went on a free walking tour up to Sacromonte with the guide Sabina yesterday - they're the guys with the red umbrellas you see in Plaza Nueva. It was just wonderful. Sabina's descriptions were super interesting, she had the group's welfare in mind at all times, was able to answer any questions, and mostly her love and passion for her home city was so evident. She loves Granada. We arrived at the top of Sacromonte just as the sun was setting - one of the best views in the world. Fabulous.

I took the Historical center of Granada group walking tour with Pedro as the tour guide and it was FANTASTIC!

The group was small (8 people) and Pedro's English was excellent and easy to both hear and understand. He had a binder with maps, photos and illustrations that he showed to each person in the group to underscore of illustrate a point.

Pedro brought the history of Granada to life for me from the city's founding to modern day politics in an interesting and entertaining way...what is the red graffiti on the cathedral? How were people executed? Why does he wear a pomegranate earring?!

Love that everyone in the group was from a different country and especially love that you pay the guide at the end what the tour was worth to you, making this experience accessible to people of all economic means.

Highly recommend this tour!

We took the “basic” 11am walking tour, with Pedro Maria Caro Aybar, who does the tours in English and French.
A young “Granadino” native of the city, he is a lively and entertaining but serious student of the amazing history of Andalusia generally and Granada in particular. The 2-1/2 hours went quickly as we covered the main sights, plazas, and alleys of the Centro and finished up in the Albazin with a beautiful view of the Alhambra.
If you do the Free Walking Tour and Pedro as your guide, you won’t be disappointed.

We did the Albaicin and Sacromonte walking tour with a group of around 20 and our guide Marta. This turned out to be the best thing we did in our whole trip to Granada, and took us through the narrow streets and sights of Albaicin up to San Nicolas Square with its amazing views of the Alhambra then down to Sacromonte and the cave houses with their flamenco and gypsy history. Marta was a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and entertaining, always ensuring that the whole group was present before talking and very clearly audible throughout. The tour does not ask for payment in advance but that you pay according to what you think the tour is worth; we thought it was brilliant and paid accordingly. Very highly recommended.

We always try to do a walking tour of the city we're visiting. (We've been to 7 different cities in Spain this winter, spending about a week in each.)
On 1 March, we did the City Centre Tour with Walk In Granada. Our guide was Mathias: he was awesome. funny, friendly and very knowledgeable: he took about 20 of us on a great tour, from Plaza Nueva. Its obvious that Mathias is very proud of his city. This tour would help anyone new to Granada to understand the history behind this beautiful city. Mathias also gave us great tips on good places to eat and shop and attractions we should see.

Highly recommend the Essential Granada tour which takes place daily for English speakers. It’s a “free” tour which means you pay what you think it’s worth at the end of the tour.

Our guide, Pedro, was fantastic. Really knowledgeable and interesting on a whole range of subjects and he gave us a great intro to the City as well as honest recommendations on how we could make the most of our time here. We both really enjoyed the tour - thank you!
