Eating in this Mercado was a highlight for me. The environment is lively, loud, and full of energy. The fish mongers are shouting at waiters to find tables. Everyone talking loud drinking wine eating tapas like it might be the last. We ate at one of the seafood places inside, but they all looked fantastic. The 5 euro paella was a good start with tiny shrimp eaten fried like popcorn.
The best!

This is a seafood market that reminds me of the fish market in Seattle with various stalls that sells different types of seafood from shellfish to tuna steak. It might be a bit chaotic when you get there if you don’t know the order of things. First purchase the seafood from the stalls that sell seafood then one of the restaurants will make the dishes either fried or grilled or you. Everyone there works well together. The price include the preparation/ cooking cost. I guess they already known if you’re going to eat there (not taking them home) when you purchased the seafood.
It’s something very special without the hassles to pick and choosing which vendors to go to because they all sell different seafood and the cooking restaurant is owned by the same people. There were other ones there but more for ordering from the menu.

Great place to eat seafood. We made it around 11 which was great bc we beat the lunch crowd. A little overwhelming cause all the restaurants are trying to hook you to eat at their place. They all seem to be getting the seafood from the stalls next to them so super fresh. We ended up eating at materia prima. Did not regret our choice.

A great place to experience different Spanish tapas based upon your preference. Beware some may come up and talk to you, but very friendly and cordial. The options are expansive and food delicious.

Pick your own seafood at the Isla Christina fish store and they can cook it in any style at the Materia Prima restaurant next door for 4 euros extra. The seafood is fresh as and all the clams are alive and moving, fish glassy eyed. Prawns were also delicious. Paired with a glass of white wine was a great meal at under 40 euros per person.

We were staying in the Albayzin area and were very disappointed with the supermarket in Elvira St, run by very grumpy people, so we headed for San Agustin Market.
On a Wednesday at noon, about 30% of the stalls were closed, however those remaining offered good produce. We got some excellent white and red langoustines and prawns and the butcher cut us some impressive entrecote for €16.90/kg.
We were later in El Corte Inglés food hall, and prices at the market were lower, except for the beef.
A stall at the market was selling small but delicious pintxos, at what we considered, the very high price of €2.30 each.
A pleasant experience and much better than the terrible stock in Elvira St.

The outdoor restaurants just outside the market cook any seafood (and of course provide wines, bread, water etc) for you bought in the market behind. The waiters will even accompany you to the market to advise. You give your table number and it is delivered and cooked for you. Of course the fish could not be fresher.
We particularly recommend cigalas ( one of the best Spanish seafoods-after percebes and elvers)..expensive but worth it!
You can also eat inside the market good tapas next to the bars.

I went there around noon at it’s was so close to the Cathedral, great place to have lunch , beware they closed at 4:00pm , you can buy some Iberia ham and some seafood and have it eat in one of the tapas restaurant there. Very clean and cheap. You have a lots of selection on seafood. Good place to hang out for seafood lover.
