Margarita was wonderful! She made the Alhambra come alive through her knowledge and passion about this wonderful historical location. Her timing for the tour was perfect. Leveraging her years of experience, she was able to always keep us one step ahead of the big crowds and she showed us special things and parts of the Alhambra that we would have never discovered on our own. She was a joy to be with and we learned so much. I highly recommend booking with her – she will enrich your experience of an already lovely attraction packed with history and beauty.

We booked Margarita for a private tour of Alhambra as part of a self-curated cruise excursion. Our ship docked in Malaga, about 1.5 hours away via taxi/bus and she graciously accommodated the short amount of time we had to explore. At no point did we feel rushed and she made sure we saw the entire complex and had the time to take all the photos we wanted, as well as a stop in the gift shop after the tour concluded. Her knowledge and inside secrets know no bounds and I wish we could have spent more time walking and talking with her.

I have wanted to visit the Alhambra for over twenty years and finally had the chance to do so with my husband and daughter September 2022. I had discovered Alhambra Tours through Rick Steves. I normally don't necessarily care for tours, I don't like any travel experiences that are too geared towards tourists, preferring to read about a place myself and experience with minimal input. However, I knew that without a knowledgeable guide, I would miss many significant details at the Alhambra, so with the knowledge that it was not only recommended but a private tour, I booked with Alhambra Tours and I am so glad that I did!
Our guide Lucia, is a native of Granada and it is clear that she is proud of her city and happy to share her extensive knowledge of it's crowning jewel with visitors. She was such a pleasant companion, she gave us so much information, but also allowed us to time just take it all in and breathe. She answered all of our many questions thoroughly and she was very patient with my, at times, faltering steps (knee issues so used a walking stick). I was actually pleasantly surprised that although walking through The Alhambra is something she has probably done nearly daily for the last twenty years, she still managed to convey joy at sharing it's abundant beauties with us-what a gift! I am so grateful that we booked with Alhambra Tours and that our guide, Lucia, was our companion!

The Alhambra is a vast complex site. It is surprising inexpensive to enter and no doubt there are audio guides and books but there are no notice boards or signs to give you any information. A personal guide like Margarita is obviously a luxury solution. But if you can afford it then it simply brings the visit alive. Margarita is hugely knowledgeable happily and enthusiastically answers questions and strangely loves to offer to take photos for you at key shopping points. She is also not set to a timetable. It takes as long as it takes, within reason so is a relaxed unpressured experience. This was our third visit and the first time we had used a guide. It was an excellent decision and Euros well spent. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time exploring the Alhambra with Margarita. Despite reading about the Alhambra I'm advance and learning about it many years ago at university, I was still unprepared for just how gorgeous it is! Truly a marvel! Seeing it for the first time with the guidance of Margarita allowed us to fully enjoy our time there. Not only do guides allow you to skip the queue, Margarita informed me in advance on what ticket to purchase, where to meet, and navigated us through the many parts of the Alhambra complex in a way that introduced the history and avoided big groups, so we could enjoy the experience without as much crowding. The gardens, the architecture, the history - it absolutely blows you away! Margarita answered every question we had and pointed out many details we would have missed. She's also just a funny person! She made several jokes, offered to take photos for us and put us at ease. When I asked her questions about her life in Granada she generously shared what her daily life includes. And when asked if she ever tires of guiding tourists through the Alhambra, she wisely exclaimed, "How could I get tired of such beauty?!" I highly recommend you spend the day with Margarita at the Alhambra!

My wife, 15 year old grandson, and I spent an afternoon with Margarita visiting the Royal Chapel, the Alcaiceria, and the Albayzin, where we had great views of the Alhambra in late afternoon. We then toured the Alhambra the following morning, where, at her suggestion, we started in the Generalife Gardens at the earliest time allowed. This was fantastic, as we were almost alone in these beautiful gardens. We then walked downhill to tour the Nazrid Palace and The Charles V Palace.
Margarita has a warm and engaging personality, she speaks perfect English, and she was always attentive to our preferences. By the second day, it felt as if a long time friend was showing us around her home area. She has an incredible knowledge of the history, the art, the architecture, the plants, and the culture of her beloved city. She used this base of facts to present a very interesting story about Granada, past and present. We give her the highest recommendation.

We had an amazing time with Margarita touring Alhambra. She is a local and her knowledge of history and events affecting the city is excellent and she gives a very enjoyable tour. Margarita was our private certified tour guide. She met us near the main entrance and we by-passed the long queues to get in, she knew exactly when and how to avoid lines and crowds. Margarita is very knowledgeable on the history of The Alhambra and eloquently explains it from the Christian and Moor viewpoints. We definitely recommend her as we had a very enriching experience in Granada due to her.

My wife and I had a 3 hour AlHambra private tour with Ms M.
It was so worth it!
She is very fluent in English( and I suspect other languages). Her depth of historic and architectural knowledge was phenomenal. She is very patient and energetic and does not rush you.
She is passionate about Granada and its Arab/Judaic/Christian culture and puts it together so well .
Take her tour!

We booked this tour prior to our visit to Granada. I must confess I’m not usually one for guided tours of castles etc much preferring to look and move on, however I’m so glad my wife and I booked this tour. We had Edu as a guide and the tour is approximately 3 hours. Edu was a fantastic guide and I must say he had lots of enthusiasm and you could clearly tell this was one guy who loved his line of work and the 3 hour tour went by very quickly. The Alhambra is an amazing place and one to certainly visit if you visit Granada.

We visited the Alhambra today with our excellent guide Sow. He knew eveything we wanted to know about the history, the architecture of the many palaces we visited during the 3 hour tour. He also entertained us with his sometimes very funny tales about a mysterieus death tree, 3 emprisoned princesses, and several more. The Alhambra, a place never to forget especially with our Senegalese guide SOW.

I am trying to contact Margarita Ortega Ortiz de Landazuri to get information about the price and the timing of a visit to the Alhambra. The web site does not seem to allow me to do that. How do I contact her?

Did you try to email her? Tripadvisor won't let me put her email address, but it's on every page of her website, starts with 'info'. That's how we communicated with her for our tour last year and she was always quick to respond.

My husband and I, as well as our adult daughter will be spending a month in Seville, but wish to take a couple of days to go to Granada and Malaga. I read your review about Margarita, and she sounds fabulous. I have a discrimination problem, and when i travel, I must have an English speaking guide that clearly speaks English. Does Margarita have a strong accent, or do you think you had a clear speaking voice in English? I could not figure out from which tour company she came. It just said, Alhambra Tours, and there were many of those. Also, did you go to Malaga, and If so could you tell me recommendations for that area? We always obtain private guides in order to learn the most from each area. I feel that is what you and your family do as well. Thank you for the review, as well as the help with obtaining Margarita!

Hi Geraldine,
Sorry for the late reply. We were traveling. The auto-bot is blocking my reply when I put the email in the message so google alhambratours and the website of that same name is Margarita's. There's a picture of her and Rick Steves on the website. You can reach her at the email contact they give you. If she is unavailable, ask for a referral.
Have fun!

I booked a private tour with Margarita on Thurs Mar 21 in the morning, and we have room for 2-4 more people, if you'd like to split the cost with us. You MUST have bought your Nasrid Palace tickets for 9:30am, Thurs Mar 21 before inquiring. Message me through tripadvisor if you're interested.
