What travelers are saying
- amjbathBath, UK.117 contributionsWhat a stunning place. We spent around 4 hours visiting the whole place - the alcazaba, royal Palace and generalife gardens.
Book your timed slot first thing at Royal Palace and then visit the rest at your leisure. Take your own headphones for free audio guide via QR code (or you can just read the info on your phone too). Nice not to have to pay extra for this.
Absolutely sensational and beautiful and worth taking your time in.Written March 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is the Summer Palace which is quite different to the rest of the complex. High on the hill, you get some stunning views from here. The garden is small but nice, adorned with water fountains.Written January 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lori PTorrance, CA3 contributionsWalk above the city to the Albayzin area, mirador view point ( in front of San Nicolas church) you can see the Sacromonte cave dwellings on the way down. Walk with Incline. There is also a bus that brings people up if the walk is too difficult for you. You have a beautiful view of Alhambra from San Nicolas. We went with a guide. Narrow winding streets easy to get lost.Written March 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JackOld Bethpage, NY846 contributionsYou can’t visit Granada without visiting the Albayzin Neighborhood. Albayzin, was the historic Moorish Quarter of the city, known for its Islamic influence. It is a beautiful part of the city with great views of the Alhambra. I highly recommend!Written January 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- top-trippersBolton, UK641 contributionsIf you are visiting the Cathedral, it is worth heading round the corner to the Royal Chapel, commissioned and privately funded by the Catholic Monarchs as their burial place. There is a €6 entrance fee (free with the Granada Card but this quite expensive). You can prebook a ticket but this does not allow you to skip the line. Allow 20-30 minutes for your visit. You cannot take pictures inside.
The pavement in front of the façade is decorated with large mosaics featuring the royal coat of arms with a double headed eagle. The walls of the nave were deliberately left bare, except for the royal heraldry and a wide blue frieze referencing the Conquest of Granada, the death of the Monarchs and the building of the chapel. Through the monumental decorated grille, you will see two magnificently carved white marble monuments, one depicting the recumbent Ferdinand and Isabella, whilst the other commemorates their daughter Joanna and her husband Philip the Handsome. You can descend the stairs to the crypt containing the coffins of the monarchs, along with that of one-year-old Miguel, the son of the Catholic Monarch’s eldest daughter Isabella, who died in childbirth). Other family members originally interred here, were later moved to Madrid’s Escorial Monastery by Philip II. Take time to admire the magnificent 16th century gilded and polychromed altarpiece, decorated with the praying statues of the Catholic Monarchs and wooden panels depicting the Conquest of Granada, along with various biblical scenes and symbols. A beautifully decorated doorway on the right leads to the Sacristy, containing items which Isabella and Ferdinan asked to be kept close by their bodies – the Queen’s crown, sceptre, jewellery box, mirror, a precious hand-painted prayer book, some of her private art collection, one of the King’s swords, and items used during the conquest of Granada. The most noteworthy paintings are Sandro Botticelli’s Agony in the Garden (one of the artist’s few paintings in Spain) and Petro Perrugo’s emotional Christ the Man of Sorrows. You can also see some of the Flemish wood panels that Isabella was so fond of.Written January 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sally62Northampton, UK5,221 contributionsA lovely street to walk alongside the River Darro with views up to the Alhambra. It's very narrow and very busy with cars, taxis and buses so you need to watch out. Lined with restaurants, shops and historical buildings.Written August 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JackOld Bethpage, NY846 contributionsThe Sacromonte neighborhood of Granada is known for its Gypsies who live in caves. It is a very cool part of the city. I saw a flamenco show there which was magical. I highly recommend visiting the Sacromonte neighborhood.Written January 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elizabeth SNJ74 contributionsMust amazing, over the top church we’ve visited anywhere. Not crowded, not huge, but breathtaking. The irony was not lost on us that the church was built to honor the local patron saint for the poor.Written February 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VanessaCacciaguerraDublin, Ireland148 contributionsThe Saint Jerome Monastery in Granada is undoubtedly a jewel worth visiting for its quiet beauty and historical significance. However, the experience could be greatly enriched with better maintenance and the provision of more informative resources from a non-religious perspective. Despite these shortcomings, I would still recommend a visit to this monastery for those seeking to explore the remarkable parts of Granada's heritage.Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
