The Puerto del Vino is an inner gate at Alhambra, originally providing access to the medina of the Alhambra. Less grand that the Gate of Justice, it is still quite impressinve.

There are many gates within the complex. This is the Puerts Del Vino. I believe it was the entrance to the wine yard. It was built early in the 14th centery. What an amazing place.

This busy Gate of Wine is an inner gate providing access to the Alcazaba fortress.

It was built at the beginning of the 14th century, during the time of Sultan Muhammad III.

The Puerta del Vino, Gate of Wine, stands next to the Palace of Carlos Quinto, on the promenade above the Gate of Justice, and was once part of an inner wall which divided the palaces from the city of the Alhambra. My wife and I visited as part of a larger guided tour and found the experience remarkable indeed.

As you enter this gate you get a sense of the history and scale of this complex. Take time to wander and take in all aspects of this magnificent World Heritage Site.

Just before reaching the gate you pass the building on your left which houses luggage lockers, sandwich/drinks vending machines and toilets. When we visited, the surrounding area was crowded with bored teenagers milling around - Plaza de Los Aljibes on the other side of the gate is quite peaceful by comparison and leads towards Alcazaba entrance. The plaza is quite large, with snack hut in the middle, seating on surrounding walls and numerous cats wandering around hopeful for some tit bits.

Puerta del Vino is one of the small gates inside the Alhambra. It was preserved when many of the buildings in this part were demolished to make way for the palace.

The first stop of the guided tour group was at this place. The restroom is located next to this gate. You can have some snacks, drink or souvenir. This gate has a combination of two cultures, Moslim and Christian. The small window represent the christian and the wide one above the gate is the moslim. Though the name with "Vino", this gate has absolutely nothing to do with wine.

The Wine Gate is an internal door and has the same function as when it was built, that is to allow passage to the Medina of the Alhambra!
Structurally it is one of the oldest buildings and inside it retains the necessary space and benches for the guard who controlled the passage.
