The location of this pleasant resort is far enough away yet close enough to the hustle and bustle of nearby Torremolinos and Benalmadena, making it quite easy to pop in to both and more importantly, equally effortless to hop out of both and return to the serenity of Carihuela. It also provides easy public transport access to Malaga, the most southern city in Europe, a city where the tip tapping of flamenco can be heard echoing down the side streets and where some of the best museums in Spain are awaiting visitors from the Costa. Malaga is the epitome of Andalusia at its very best and highly recommend to all who enjoy a short culture break. On the other hand la Carihuela is a former fishing village with one of the longest beaches in the area. The promenade is ideal for a pleasant, leisurely stroll at all times of the day and night, it is flat and is particularly safe, an important factor for the golden oldie brigade. Lots of coffee shops, La Tahoma is a classic Pasteleria serving good coffee and fabulous cakes, fish restaurants abound, Casa Juan is excellent for quality seafood and it is a big thriving enterprise. Because it was a fishing village of old, produce from the sea is really fresh and varied around here and features prominently on the menus of most dining venues including the family run Bodegas Carteras. In brief Carihuela is synonymous with the highest standards of Spanish hospitality, cuisine and culture not to mention a unique quality of life, the absence of night clubs and all night bars is much appreciated by a loyal bunch of regular visitors. It is an area that is acknowledged by many as a veritable Garden of Eden at the very foot of Europe and just a stones throw away from north Africa. The sub tropical climate and a Mediterranean diet acts like a magnet to those from the chilly parts of northern Europe who wish to relax in a resort that oozes old world charm and is particularly friendly and amenable to pensioners and those who appreciate tranquillity and the finer things in life.

My wife and I had tried a couple of chiringuitos along the sea front in Fuengirola specialising in sea food and been bitterly disappointed. Well over priced menus and disappointing cooking - either tasteless or microscopic potions.

Not so La Carihuela. This is how a traditional seafood restaurant should be, We sat outside on the pavement and consumed a delicious meal. The starters and the main courses were superb. Each selection was the very best you would expect.

We're going back today to celebrate our daughter's birthday.

The walkway along the beach front takes you for a short walk or many miles if you wish. In a bygone era you can imagine the fishermen cursing the sun and mending their nets on the beach. When your grandparents were youngsters you could have bought the whole beach for a few pounds. Fortunately there is so much competition for your restaurant pounds or Euros that prices are very good. Take your time walking a mile or two breathing some of the cleanest air in the world. Absorb the ozone.
Walking along the Paseo beachfront is very relaxing and reminiscent of the time when the Romans ruled here. At the Windmills roundabout there are the archeological remains of a Roman built depot. The walk along Carihuela towards Malaga or more west towards Fuengirola is filled with interest. Especially if you walk up the very old Calle San Miguel into The Centre of Tirremolinos. This wonderful walkway is absolutely free.

Normaly we don't go on holidays like this. But we just wanted a holiday to rest, eat and be lazy.
This neighbourhood of Torremolinos is the best of Torremolinos. No high buildings (from sea to 3 streets back), max 5 levels. This gave a more free feeling. Also the boulevard and the street behind the first row of buildings are car-free. That is so much more better than other placer where the boulevard is always next to busy streets.

The boulevard itself is nice and well maintained. Garbage were picked up twice a day and at night a car sweeper cleaned the rest.
Many restaurants and shops can be found here. The street behind the boulevard is also nice. Beautiful tiles and much shops. Some are the same as at the boulevard because they own the front as the backside. That way you can enter it either way and restaurants give you a choice to sit at the street or at the boulevard.

On the beach you can find lots of sunbeds (€7,- per bed) which are comfortable. If you want to be close at the beach, be prepared to be very near your neighbour. A couple rows back you'll have more space.
Often beds are reserved, but there are always other beds available.
The beach is also very nice. Cleaned daily by the people who rent out the beds and at night a truck cleans the seaside.

It was a onetime experience because we do not like this kind of holiday much. There is not much of Spanish culture here to be found. And that is ok if you don't seek for that. You will have a nice holiday.

La Carihuela has a great beach and the beach front has a multitude of good restaurants and shops. For children, there is the Tivoli, the crocodile park and the water world complex. Relatively short drives along the coast will take you to Mijas, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Gibraltar and the caves at Nerja or inland to Granada and the stunning Alhambra palace.

I was staying at La Carihuela Plaza apartments for 3 weeks in January 2020. I had the pent house suite. Beautiful large private terrace with loads of outside space. Beautiful outdoor furniture and table to sit 6 comfortably.
The studio apartment is beautiful. King sized bed and lovely kitchen facilities. En suite also top notch. Satélite TV with every UK channel you can want. Free internet and incorporated safe. AC/ heating also. Cleaned every day. Beautiful uninterrupted view of the beach and of Malaga. Owners Yazi and Antonio couldn’t have been more helpful. It’s just lovely. Go see for yourself and enjoy. They have a website and are on Booking.com.

I came here November 1st for a week. Weather was perfect. Mainly full sun and warm.
I stayed at La Barricuda hotel which is the quieter part of the resort.
If you want a week of beach, drinking and chilling out, it is ideal.
I felt very safe and there were loads of supermarkets, bars and restaurants.
I thought the place was a bit touristy and geared for drinkers. The shops were awful. They all sold the same tourist stuff and there were no high end or decent shops. I’d been looking forward to shopping but didn’t find one nice shop.
Next time I’ll stick to Malaga for great shopping and beach.
La Carihuela was ok for a week in the sun, but I wouldn’t go again, mainly because of the rubbish tourist shopping.

This two-kilometer long beach is part of Torremolinos.

The waterside promenade has plenty of restaurants and bars. It is a nice place to walk to the Marina of Benalmadena.

This place is famous for the outdoor chiringuito bars serving classic fried fish.

I had heard through people before me that the resort I was off to was nothing special so I went with that in mind.On arrival I was pleasantly surprised .I think anyone who has been to this part of the world knows you can walk for miles in either direction finding similar set up along the way . The hotels then the shops restaurants etc and then beach . Our hotel well the one we were staying in see I don"t own it oh that's a little Joke was 1000 metres from our balcony . That is the way it was I think we must have lucked out on the room .We spent a lovely week here walks ,swims ,shopping exploring and at night a walk to find a restaurant in a different style.Simple living but we enjoyed it . Take a break Chillax X N

The apartment is beautifully fitted out and well equipped with everything you could need.
The location is fantastic and only 200 metres from the beach and promenade. There are so many bars, cafes and restaurants that you will be spoilt for choice. The only thing better than the apartment and its location is the host Marcelo who is so helpful, informative and ensures your stay meets your expectations. We will certainly be returning.
