About
Málaga is the launching partner of the new concept of temporary Centre Pompidou (Centre Pompidou provisoire). The "Centre Pompidou Málaga" is intended to be a laboratory and pilot project. Over the next few years, it will settle into an existing building, the "Cubo", and offer the public a selection of masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou's collection, a programme of exhibitions and multi-disciplinary experiences as well as exhibitions and workshops dedicated to younger audiences. The "Centre Pompidou provisoire", draws from the Centre Pompidou's museum expertise, multi-disciplinary cultural programming and paedagogical tools, especially those geared towards families and younger audiences. Their aim is to become an interface between society and creation, in order to make today's art accessible to the widest possible audience.

- Janet CLeeds, United Kingdom5 contributionsExpensive for what it is, with pompous commentary. Full price but half closed. Some interesting art work, but the (English) commentary on the handset seemed as if they were reading far more meaning than was intended. Many referred to “our capitalist society”. Tickets comparatively expensive. We were charged full price then told that they wouldn’t open one of the floors until 7pm that day (it was 3pm when we entered). One of the exhibits’ commentary referred to how all the parts smelled different, but you weren’t allowed within 5 feet so how were you supposed to sniff it? If you want to see art in Malaga, go to the Picasso Museum (similar price but loads more to see without the spin), or the Malaga museum which is free and also has archaeology. However, it is air conditioned and the building is interesting!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 18, 2023
- Filao W9 contributionsNot to be missed by art loversLovely location, just a 5 minute stroll along the Puerto de Malaga quay side from the bus terminus. The temporary exhibition we went to "Placeness" was a treat. Our ticket entitled us to visit the permanent exhibition as well but we decided to save that treat for next time. Eclectic thought- provoking international modern art in a great building. A must for art lovers.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 30, 2024
- Desislava AndreevaPortsmouth, United Kingdom407 contributionsInteresting designI was just passing this building and found it very interesting and strange apart of everything else around. I didn’t have chance to go inside as the exhibition was closed, but outside looked quite colourful. There were street games nearby with teenagers enjoying them.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 16, 2024
- 1957Ottawa, Canada827 contributionsVery modern and abstract art..We visited this museum on a Sunday after 4 pm because admission was free. Well situated near boardwalk on the waterfront of Malaga. It’s building is very different and modern, shaped like a cube with lots of colourful glass. This is a very modern abstract exhibit museum, well indicated with specific information. I found , it was well done but not my type of art.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 17, 2024
- chiltonFife, United Kingdom171 contributionsHighlight of tour of art galleries in MalagaWent twice and really enjoyed it. Surprised at how large it was. The main exhibition (which finishes at the end of March) covered at least 6 galleries and focussed on the way we inhabit space – sounds convoluted but the excellent interpretation boards for the galleries and each picture were very helpful. There was an enormous David Hockney (32 panel)picture of a wood in The Wolds, Yorkshire which was particularly memorable. The gallery, like many others, has free viewing on Sunday /evenings.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024
- Uncle BadgerThe Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom653 contributionsDon’t let it put you off artYou would think the Pompidou in Paris would have sent some decent stuff down. No chance. It’s all pretty average. The activity for kids to design your own Matisse artwork was quite good. Not sure it was worth the admission fee though.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 1, 2024
- Dan KThe Hague, The Netherlands8,954 contributionsOur children loved the inside Matisse workshopI’m not a a very big fan of modern art, but more a classical art kind of guy. Monet, Matisse en Patisserie where I would draw the line. Okay, and of course Salvador Dali. And a bit of Gaudi perhaps. Anyway, long intro. We visited the Centre Pompidou Málaga om a Sunday afternoon, when the admission is free. We have been to Malaga many times since 2019, nit never visited. This would be our first visits The exhibition of Carlos Cruz-Diez was very interesting to see, with our eyes indeed playing tricks. Other works of art were… Well. Very modern. For our two young sons, the highlight of our visit was the ‘Inside Matisse’ workshop, where they could design their own Matisse. They loved it. All in all we had a very nice afternoon.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 7, 2024
- Danonino2017Resita, Romania166 contributionsInteresting exhibitionsInteresting exhibitions, I was happy to see a Victor Brauner work, a film made by Constantin Brancusi. Unfortunately at the time I visited the museum, the children's area was closed. From what I could see, this space looked interesting.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 18, 2024

There was an enormous David Hockney (32 panel) oil painting of a wood in The Wolds, Yorkshire was cheerful and inspiring. The Carlos Cruz- Diez Colour in Motion had large coloured perspex panels which you were able to walk between to experience the play of light and 'rainbow reflection' on the white walls.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 20, 2024

The museum hosts a range of temporary and permanent exhibitions arranged across two levels in a contemporary building. A good destination for the whole family - it comes with an audio guide which is great for those looking to take in the displays, and our two year old daughter loved exploring the different spaces and climbing the central stair.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 14, 2024

I must be very ignorant but this was terribly boring! There is a whole room of "chinese ink" scribbled over old documents. No explanation as to why, every single information board just reads "chinese ink". There is no continuity or story line like the car museum for example. The audiophones were included, but very boring commentaries. There are a couple of videos and sculptures. There seemed to be an interesting activity for the children in a separate room with very friendly staff attending the families, doing arts and crafts. I am glad I didn't pay for this museum but again, it may be just my lack of education towards art. I prefer interactive museums like the music museum in Malaga or the Rembrandt House in Amsterdam where you feel you have learnt something. I have given three stars as there is nothing wrong with the museum, staff or building, I just didn't think it had much to offer. There is a terribly expensive shop at the end of your visit. There is also underground parking, quite reasonably priced.

Close to the park and waterfront, the Centre Pompidou Malaga was an enjoyable visit. I found it to be a very modern art gallery. During our visit, one of the current exhibitions was “A Time of One’s Own” – Breaking Free from the Constraints of Everyday Life. Friendly reminder, no flash photography--I accidently forgot to disable on cell phone before entering and was kindly reminded.

Worth the visit while in Málaga. We happened to be there on a Sunday afternoon and it was free! Not a huge collection (permanent and temporary) but I prefer this kind of museum that you can visit in about an hour. It is a very 'cool' place too meaning a good place to get out of the hot afternoon.

Their permanent exhibit is currently closed, only the temporary exhibit was opened which didn't do anything for me. It'll be a little while before their permanent exhibit will be opened. Free storage lockers, but requires one euro deposit. Free entry on Sundays after 1600 hours.

Some important works of art here (Miro for example). Very enjoyable: a good selection of art and I would return.
Free entry with a disability card for the holder and a +1 ( for a partially sighted person, I do not know if that extends to all disabilities but it is a modern building and should be wheelchair friendly, however it is best to inquire before going)

This gallery was a very unexpected surprise. I didn’t know anything about it beyond its multi-coloured glass box. But inside is a wonderfully interesting and eclectic mix of paintings, sculpture, photographs, design, architecture and installations. The current exhibition (April 2022 to October 2023) is on the theme of time, how we interpret it, how we interact with it, how we play with it. I spent 90 minutes going around, lost in fascination with the variety of exhibits. I was sorely tempted to go around again! A must-see gallery if you’re in Malaga, please don’t miss it.

Do they have permanent exhibitions or only temporary ones?
Written January 28, 2020
The Pompidou Centre in Malaga is a large open air multi coloured ( plastic/ glass) cube. It is on the quayside ( very attractive).
It has an open inside that did not have any exhibits when we were there. I don't think the design would allow these.
It was really a statement architectural building .
Hope these comments have helped

Yes, there is an entrance fee, one price for the main collection and a higher price if you include special exhibitions. We are senior citizens so our tickets were Euro 6.00 each.
