This beautiful church was built in 1490, on the ruins of an old mosque.

The building has Islamic, Gothic & Baroque elements. The Mudejar-style square tower was designed as a separate minaret and attached to the church in the 16th century.

In 1881, Malaga-born artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso was christened here.

Stunningly beautiful and atmospheric church where apparently Pablo Picasso was baptised. Amazing architecture abounds in the building. Free to enter and a true joy to sit and take in the surroundings. My wife and I enjoyed the visit greatly.

It has a mudejar tower and inside there is a mix of Mudejar and Gothic styles.

It also has a large wooden door with what looks like breasts on it. I thought it was my imagination until I saw the willy shapes too!

This Church of Santiago is an interesting church. It is located on Calle Granada and near the Plaza de la Merced, both of which have plenty of pedestrian traffic. However few people enter this church. Actually it is the oldest church in Malaga, founded in 1490. The tower has a square form and has the Mudejar style. The most important feature of the church is the baptismal font made of marble in the 16th century and this was were Picasso was baptized in 1881.

Stumbled upon this beautiful old church as we were wandering around the historic centre of Malaga and what a great find.
Built on the site of a former mosque in 1490 ,on close inspection the differing architectural styles becomes apparent, a beautiful church both inside and outside, entry is free ,you can view the documentation that shows that Picasso was baptised here in 1881,it's a church that has some serious history attached to it.
Located on Calle Granada and is most definitely well worth seeking out.

The Church of Santiago is the oldest church in Malaga. It was constructed in 1490. The church is located on a central street, so it is easy to get to. The most interesting thing to see in this church is the baptismal font at one corner, and it was where Picasso was baptized.

During our visit we passed by the Church of Santiago, famous for the fact that Picasso was baptized in this church in 1881. It is located at Calle Granada and you easily mis it in the small streets. We found it, but unfortunately the church was closed, so we only could admire the outside. The oldest church of Malaga is built on top of a former mosque and dates back to 1490. It has a beautiful door in Mudejar style and also the tower is in the same style. Next time we are here, we make sure we enter.

Thousands of people pass Calle Granada every day but very few people visit this church. That is too bad because it is historic and is the oldest church in Malaga. The baptismal font was used to baptize Picasso, who was born in the nearby Plaza de la Merced.
