Great experience!!! All kinds of foods and some other items for sale. Unbelievable fruit, both familiar and strange kinds, Several places in and around for a sit down meal.
CAUTION There are enough foolish tourists coming through to promote rip offs by candy stalls and the raisin and dried fruit sellers. They will double and triple the amount that you request despite your telling them that you only want a small amount and will refuse to reduce the amount. They will also raise the price per unit as well. If they won't cooperate, don't buy anything from them. Don't be a victim!

This bar is located inside the market, it is very popular with the locals, they use it as a pit stop for tapas and a drink of beer or wine while shopping around in the market, in this market, we experienced the local culture, a bit of their lifestyle, the tapas they like to eat at this bar, this place tells the story of Malaga lifestyle.

If you’re visiting this market then you could stop by this bar and enjoy some delicious seafood or other types of tapas along with a drink. The quality of tapas here is good and it also provides a great value for money, we enjoyed a small break from our busy sightseeing in Malaga with a drink and a few tapas at this bar.

Some of the popular tapas here are Brochettes of prawns and octopus, crispy-fried lemon-marinated Boquerones.

Fabulous market, very colourful displays of fresh products and a choice of eateries. Great atmosphere and interesting to wander through the various aisles. The historical entrance is an amazing Moorish arched gateway and at the back of the market there is a beautiful stained window illustrating the history of Malaga.

When choosing city breaks and holidays abroad travellers are increasingly seeking real life experiences to add some depth and added value to their trips. Expensive dining out is certainly not the only way to experience the cuisine of a region. From cookery courses and food markets to vineyard visits and farm tours, a combination of tasting, meeting and hearing the stories from locals connects the new age traveller to the history, customs and culinary differences of a new destination. Food markets are the heart and soul of Spanish gastronomy and they are the ideal place to get an authentic taste of the most delectable and sought after culinary products of the surrounding area. Mercado Atarazanas is the undisputed epicentre of a truly amazing array of fresh produce in central Malaga. The impressive century old wrought iron and glass building is an old school market, great for tasting a bit of Manchego cheese, a glass of local Malaga wine, a few oysters, a plate of Ibérico ham and also perfecto for sampling a wide range of traditional or contemporary Spanish tapas. Visiting a food market has long been the most authentic way to experience any destination, after all, what better way to get the pulse of a city than to see its proud vendors in full flow dealing with their regular customers. Open Monday to Saturday from 0800 to 1500 hrs. Remember that the market is not a museum. Vendors are locals earning a living for their families.

Amongst the market stalls selling fresh fruit, meat and fish etc., there is a bar type place hidden away at the back where you can order different sea food dishes and they are SO GOOD. I came back here twice and was only in Malaga for three days! You can also sit out the front of the market in more of a restaurant type place and I believe it is the same menu... I think it was called “Happy Fish”. Would definitely recommend!

A very interesting covered market in an historic place with colourful regional products from fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, spices, etc...
Prices are very reasonable. It is located in the lower part of the old town, near the canal.

Nice market. Prices can vary quite a lot from stand to stand, so have a look around before buying. Difficult not to taste and buy...should have been visited on a full stomach 😜!! Delicious food. But as for the “eateries” around, not so impressed: very overpiced in comperiamo to the rest of Malaga and not so special in food preparation.

Before the area was cleared in 1868 to make way for the current market building it was variously used as a shipyard, convent, military fort, hospital and medical school. Visited on a Saturday afternoon as stalls were closing but it was still busy with locals crowded around the bars/cafes, spilling onto the pavement and generally enjoying themselves. This is where locals shop to get the best of fresh meat, fish, vegetables and associated regional produce. A magnificent stained glass window takes up one end of the building. It’s close to the main city area and definitely worth a detour to treat your senses but don’t forget to check out the window!

I wish I had a market like this at home. I love Spanish markets and this is one of the best. Different sections for seafood, meat, fruit and veg, cheese etc. All fresh and seasonal.
Some great little bars inside. Even the building itself has some serious history!

A great little market, not too far at all form the main shopping streets of Malaga.
The first thing that struck me was the fabulous stain glass windo at the top end of the market from where we entered it.
The market itself was very busy and you can purchase all the necessary food you need, fresh fish, meat, veg and fruit etc.
Ideal to get your ingredients for a meal
