    Worth the Climb.
The castle is located on top of Mount Gibralfaro from where you have a beautiful view over the harbor and the coast of Malaga. It;s quite a climb uphill (approx. 130 m) or you can take the public bus to there from downtown Malaga. The Castillo de Gibralfaro is located above the Alcazabaand was originally a Phoenician fortress, which was converted into an Arab castle in the 14th century.

    Take A Taxi
I took a taxi up to the entrance and looking at the state of the people that had walked up it was the correct decision, it is hard enough walking down so I would recommend a cab. The ticket machine are easy to use and I got the combined ticket that also included the Alkazar, the castle itself is not that impressive but what is spectacular is the view. From here you have a view that covers the whole city and it was worth the visit just for that, there are toilet facilities and a cafe I would recommend strong walking shoes or boots as there is a lot of walking.

    High Point of the City
The long walk up from the city was worth it for the views on the way alone. It is quire steep in places so not for those with limited mobility. (The 35 bus also takes you up there.). The castle is extensive and although it doesn’t have the architecture of the Alcazaba it is definitely worth a visit. The ramparts and walls are extensive and offer great views over the city, coast and inland too. There is an excellent bar with a terrace offering a range of hot and cold drinks and snack with seats in the shade or the sun. A combined ticket for the Alcazaba too was €11 for two adults.

It’s worth the climb to see those views
It takes time to get up there, but it is worth it every step. You can purchase a combo ticket for the castle and Alcazaba for E5.50. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and have bottle of water on the go. The castle is gorgeous and provides the best view to the port and surrounding area. There are toilets and cafe. It took us about 2 hours to explore everywhere.

    Breathtaking view
The Gibralfaro castle and fortification was amazing. For me a bit of a struggle to walk up the hill and stairs, but well worth it when I finally arrived. Actually well worth the stops to get there too, as they all had a different view. Walking on the old castle walls was scary and breathtaking.

    Ecxerice with a view
Interesting history and lovely view to be enjoyed on sunny dry day. Be prepared to walk. The other alternative is to take the nr 35 bus to the top or do the electric bike tour. We also enjoyed a drink on the summit. Entry from € 3.50 a person for 1 site or 2 for €5. Sundays after 14h00 the entry is free.

    A long climb
This was a trip we put off for a day since we visited the fort below it the day before. It was a goodly hike uphill to get to the castillo. The way is well marked and not difficult unless you have hip or knee problems. The castillo is quite nice and worth the climb. Spectacular views of Malaga and its waterfront.

At the top , quite the view..
We took bus #35 up the 400ft elevation , when we got there we visited the castle . The prices were reasonable ..for a senior 65 years old +, it was 2.50 euros . With the QR code , it was possible to visit with audio information for free. Lot’s of uneven terrain to walk and some steps + however the views are magnificent. There is a bar restaurant and washrooms at the the top. You can go down by bus or walk down the uneven stone pathway ( 400 ft down) .

Impressed by it's size and location
After visiting Alcazabar we walked up the steep path to Gibralfaro, The views from the top over the city below and the surrounding countryside were excellent. If you can’t manage the walk up (about 30/40 minutes and quite steep) you can get the bus. The cafe and toilets in the fortress were very welcome

    Well worth the effort
The walk up to the castle is definitely worth the effort. It is a steep hill but the path is in good condition and there are lots of viewing points on the way. The entry fee was reasonable and well organised. The views of the city and the waterfront are amazing (even in the rain).

Getting to the castle by walking is pretty hard, above all if it's sunny and hot, you need strong legs' muscles. But then the walk along the castle's walls in a sunny day was one of the best walks ever, for the amazing view on the whole city and the sea. And it's also very cheap, we only paid 1,50 euros each, since we are students.

Steep 20 minute walk up from the old town
Unremarkable views on the way up
3.50 Euro to enter the castle and very little to see up there .
A small museum lacking any information in English and no information points elsewhere .
Basically not worth the effort

Affordable and easy to navigate, make sure to arrive early to avoid the biggest crowds. The hike up is a bit steep, but our family with young children and a toddler made it with a few piggy backs along the way. There are busses that also make the trip. Tickets are easily purchased from a machine where you can select from many languages. Self guided audio tours are also available. There are a number of stairs inside the castle and uneven terrain. Walking on the castle walls however is a great treat for views around the whole city. Toilets and a small cafe made this a great stop after a warm morning of climbing.

This castle with two lines of walls and eight towers sits on a high hill overlooking Malaga city and port.

It was built between the 10th and 14th centuries to protect the Alcazaba.

You can walk on its walls and have spectacular views of the city.

Perched on top of the hills of Malaga, one is afforded excellent views of the ocean and of the city of Malaga. Otherwise, there's really not much to see inside. In fact, I was kinda bored and I'm still assessing if the steep 15-20 minute hike to get to it was worth my time. Small museum inside, but not very interesting.

You can get a combined ticket for the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro, cheaper then if you'd buy a ticket for each individually.

It’s a steep walk up to the top but many stopping places en route to catch one’s breath and look at the views.
The view from the very top is wonderful.
The museum is well laid out and interesting.
Could do with translation of the information into other languages and the cafe to be open all the time the castle is not closed an hour or so beforehand as if was the day we went .

Real bit of history and fairly untouched or Disney-fied. Great views too However, if ike me you are a bit on the clumsy side please wear strong and steady footwear and be careful - it would so easy to take a nasty tumble.

Entry to this and the Alcazaba for E5.50 was really good value and included the elevator up to the Alcazaba. I took the 35 bus down to street level and then took the lift (in the walls behind the park) up to the Alcazaba rather than the steep winding path.

You really get your workout if you hike up to this Castillo. Is it worth the hike? You bet it is. The views are amazing and it’s just hard to image how this fortress was built. We watched parakeets building nests on the way up and they were at eye view. You also get an opportunity to peer into the bull ring. Allow ½ day for this adventure.

We decided to "walk the hill" to the historic site on a cool March day. It is an uphill walk so can't imagine it wouldn't have been pleasant on a super-hot or humid day, even though it is not that bad of a climb. The buildings are interesting and got some great pics. The views from the top are amazing. There is a small fee in addition to access the museum building. It's one room and all the placards were only in Spanish so would have skipped it but it was only a Euro or two more so no big deal.

It is a very long and steep walk up to the Castle. We took a taxi but there’s also a local bus, the 35: and you can of course walk. The views are across the harbour and the city spectacular and the walk down has a number of options at the bottom, including to the Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso and the esplanade. The castle had just COVID-19 closed when we were there but the exercise and views was good.
