- nnmercmanCamberley, United Kingdom14,440 contributionsGreat views!A few years ago I walked up to the castle and it didn’t take me as long as I thought (but I was fitter then!!). Decided to drive up this time and glad I had google maps to help navigate. There is parking outside the castle and we walked the few steps to the viewpoint. Spectacular views down across the bull ring, port area and city beyond - there is an orientation panel but not easy to interpret due to weathering. It can be difficult to get a reasonable view elsewhere due to the trees/foliage and other than from the castle ramparts, this is where you’ll get the best views (and it’s free..👍).Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024
- D'Elia GConversano, Italy2,721 contributionsA little uphill, but worth itThe view of the city and the plaza de toros from the castle mirador is something worth remembering through the countless photographs that represent a must of this attraction. There is a path that will take you with a little effort to a very suggestive view. If you do it in the evening it's even better.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 1, 2024
- Heidi N451 contributionsNice viewsLovely view! You can go during the day or sunset time. It is a kind of heavy walk up in the very hot sunshine. I dont recommend it when it is rainy as the path might be very slippery. We walked up and down during the daytime but also the other time we took a taxi (6e?) from the city center to get up there at the sunset time and walked back down later. Both are worth for. You may also want to take some snacks (water, red wine, olives etc.) in case you plan to stay a bit more time and have an aperitivo picnic style on the sunset.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 4, 2024
- txcornbreadArlington, Texas267 contributionsAmazing historyThis place is massive! Lots of walking to explore all areas. Outstanding views and great history. There is a lovely little cafe inside serving drinks, coffee and snacks. Plan at least an hour and a half if you want to see it allVisited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 17, 2024
- Cesar G29 contributionsThe best viewpoint in MalagaEasy to reach (by taxi or bus 35) this viewpoint has stunning views of the city the port and the bullring. Next door is the Malaga stopper, ideal to have a drink and enjoy other incredible views quietly from its terrace....then I recommend bara walking along a super nice path and without much slope not stairs 😉 !!!Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 11, 2025

We discovered that you can take a local bus #35 from Avenida principal. It goes by every 30 minutes and for 1.30 euros the bus will take you up to the top. The treck uphill is difficult and we strongly recommend this minor investment. The walk down is much more pleasant

For the best views over the city, visit BOTh sites, this as well as the Alcazaba, which can be included in the same ticket to save some money. The preservation work done is second to none, and it is in a better state than either the Generalife in Granada or the Alcazar in Valencia or Sevilla. Do not miss this - allow some 4 hours for both sites asa minimum.

It is a fair hike to get to this platform but definitely worth it. Wear sturdy shoes and I would go either early or late when it isn’t too hot or busy. It does get very popular and this can spoil it with are too many people trying to get the same views.
And what views they are! You start with the beach, move around to the port then the park and then the old town with the magnificent buildings. The word awesome seems over used these days but I think it is very appropriate in this case.
You see something different every time and it gives a real sense of perspective as to what a beautiful city Malaga really is.

This is the best viewpoint in the city. Even better then the castle above it. It’s a bit of a up hill walk but good exercise. I’d go up in the evening because it’s very warm during the day. Great place to catch a sunset picture

The climb up to this fortress takes about 25 mins (if walking, although you can get a bus). Spectacular views of the port and Malaga are seen. I would recommend you wear comfy strong shoes and not flip flops as the surfaces can be steep, slippy and uneven. So far, this has been the sightseeing highlight of my trip to Malaga. Great at sunset :)

If you walk up to the Castle you will automatically come to this viewing platform. You’ll be glad of it as well as it gives you time to have a rest and let your legs recover from the steep Hill you’ve just climbed!
Definitely wear sturdy footwear as we saw people trying it in flip-flops and sliding all over the place.
Once on the platform you get amazing views of the port, old town and the mountains beyond. There is a metal picture that highlights which building is which which is very useful.
It takes about 15 minutes from the bottom of the hill but obviously longer if you take occasional breaks to sit on the wall which we did!

We have two small children age 6 and 5 and they loved the adventure of the climb and then reaching at the top of the castle understanding the history... they loved it. It had a small museum, very enjoyable but the boys wanted to see more...
We stopped off at the little cafe for a drink break which was very refreshing. Staff were very friendly

It’s worth to climb up to this viewing point because you can see the city, the bullring, the port and the sea. It’s not an easy walk on steep path (you need comfortable shoes!) so we had a rest for some minutes to enjoy the great panorama. It’s free, but we bought a combine ticket to the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro (Castle). They were great, I recommend it.

Our guide took us to the top in the elevators-you open up to a hallway that leads you to the gardens- there are restrooms there. From the top you can see the Bull Fight Arena. Separate rooms with artifacts are also included. We walked to the streets below through gardens and running water. Very beautiful. Uneven ground so be very cautious.

We visited the Mirador/Catsillo on a bright sunny morning in February. Afternoons are free but its worth paying the charge to go in the morning as its quieter and worthwhile.
Its a beautifully preserved historical sight, the small museum is interesting and the walk around the castle walls well worth doing.
If you have mobility issues it might be difficult to get around the walls, but there is a road access to the castle so you can get there by car/taxi. And its well worth it for the view over Malaga.

Is there a place where we can securely leave luggage?

Get off at Centro station, you come out of subway look across road there a bridge , cross that walk up a little until you come to the main street, lots of roadworks at moment, all the buses go up and down. Walk to the end where you get near the harbour keep on same road, past the cathedral you then see gardens you just turn left then right. It is signposed. You pass a Hans Christian Anderson statue. It is quite easy there is a hill to walk up. Another tip, the hop on hop off bus do go there if you decide do do this Stops are everywhere people will stop you in street about this. Enjoy. Castel definitely worth s visit only 3.50 euros to get in.
