About
License to chill! Private sail yacht charter from Estepona port, with us, wind permitting, you will experience the sensation of real sailing. We have a different philosophy about chartering than most. Don´t expect a standard route. Our course will depend on the wind, current, waves and of course the destination. If there is wind we will always sail by sail. If you want to help putting up the sails and/or steer the boat – you can. No need for experience. We are convinced that we offer the best price/quality for a private sail day charter between Marbella and Sotogrande. Based in Estepona with the possibility of a multiple day trip to Ceuta/Morocco as well. But we will always sail if possible and see something of the fauna that surrounds us and culture at our destination. And of course, with a day trip we will try to meet your wishes. Wind permitting, real sailing or look for dolphins - have a swim. Anything is customisable – on board you have a license to chill! Look at all we offer!

My Husband and I took an sunset boat trip with Robert from Sailing the Strait last Friday as part of our honeymoon trip to Estepona. It was a brilliant experience, and one of the highlights of our holiday. Booking was very straightforward through Whatsapp. Robert was friendly and accommodating. We managed to get the sails out, which was great. The sunset was beautiful. All of this was excellent value at €75 per person, and that included a bottle of Cava. When looking at other operators for boat trips, I couldn't find another private charter for 2 people at such good value. I'd recommend this to anyone, and would be very tempted by one of the longer trips in the future.

We went sailing with Robert last week and had a good time. We motored out of the harbor, raised the jib, and the furling device jammed on the mainsail. After numerous attempts to free the sail it finally got “unstuck “ and we spent the rest of the day sailing off the coast west of Estepona. Most of the trip was via GPS navigation using a remote device, not a lot of tacking and bringing in/letting out of the sails. All in all a relaxing afternoon with a plentiful selection of wines, salami, bread, and cheese.
On a side note, due to construction in Estepona the bus routes are drastically altered and you might find yourselves searching for the harbor.

Hi Tom & Terresa, thank goodness for your comment. Now I can explain my business a bit better! This a one man business and gives me room for very reasonable prices. I have a remote control for the autopilot and have a lot of faith in it. It allows me to prepare drinks / food inside and have interaction with my clients. I can help my clients get into the donut and gives me liberty to get the main sail unstuck etc., which sometimes happens. I have crossed the Atlantic twice and am therefor not very keen on steering myself unless necessary. On the other hand, once we leave the port my clients can always take the steering wheel whenever they want and I usually encourage them. I am more than happy to explain whatever / whenever. You´ve actually sailed. I can promise you, out of the 15 competitors I have in Estepona there is only one other that sometimes even makes an attempt to put up some sail! The rest motors around aimlessly. I am very proud of my business and am even quite frustrated when I can´t put some sail at least. I hope you come again, take the steering wheel and tack whenever you want! ( under my supervision of course! ). Hell, let´s go Morocco! Thank you, Robert

We had a fantastic 4 hours sailing on our son’s 20th birthday. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us to move around, sunbathe, jump in the sea, lie on the mattress and the lunch was lovely. Robert is very knowledgeable and replied quickly to WhatsApp messages with information, etc. Luckily there was a slight wind which meant the sails were used making the trip more special. Would definitely recommend and do this trip again in the future.

Thank you for your response, I will do anything for some wind. The silence, moving because of the wind is sensational. Something you have experienced yourselves. I would invite anyone to experience to come along and take the wheel. I say this because from the port of Estepona nobody sails really except me! My competitors will make no effort to pull out some sail. They motor around aimlessly. It will always be an adventure with me because my trips will be dependant on the elements mainly. Come along again and I will treat you to some real sailing! Wine, beers, you know the drill! Regards Robert

No the greatest of excursions. Roberto wasn't expecting us even though the trip had been booked for 2 months . We arrived at the alotted time , he had to be phoned to come and collect us .
The boat wasn't clean and ready . We went under motor , nice views and sunset . Took some good photos. Sunset excursion lasted 2 hours . Drinks 🍸 provided but refills had to be requested. Could have been so much better.

Would definitely recommend this sailing trip. They took us out sailing even though it was the off season and a little chilly. We had so much fun!! The views were amazing. They let us help sail and even provided a delicious snack with champagne. The whole experience was very memorable. I would absolutely book with them again :)

13 July was an amazing day. This day of sailing and enjoying the sun was amazing. I have never experienced such a big wild life dolphins. Everything was perfectly organised. As lunch we ate fresh fish from the barbecue. One of the biggest reason why this day was so great is because everything was private. We had an amazing day only with my family. It was a great experience, I'lll never forget this day.

Hi Gijs, thank you for your review. Hope to see you again, maybe a wildlife tour in the Strait of Gibraltar for 3 days might be something for you and your family. I´m pretty sure you will be even more amazed when you see Orca´s, Pilot whales and giant Tuna. With regards, Robert

We (my wife, 2 teenagers and I) chartered Robert ( a seasoned transatlantic sailor) and his lovely 39ft Jeanneau yacht for half a days sailing. The only time we used the motor was in and out of the port. The wind was fresh and the sailing was just perfect. My son helped out too with some deck work. A truly memorable day. Great value too. Dont make the mistake we did and bring food as Robert seems to provide everything. Thank you Robert.

Fab-bu-lous

We booked with Robert via what’s app and a phone call - responded very quickly to any questions we had and made great positive suggestions

We were a party of nine - 4 adults and 5 teens and we all found a space on the boat either on the cockpit or the fore deck on the mattress that doubles as a sea mattress.

We booked four hours - and it was a very relaxed four hours - the agenda was ours

Very quickly we launched into the tow along doughnut which was great fun - plenty fast enough behind the yacht and shortly after we stopped for swimming off the boat in pristine clear blue waters

Our hosts were both relaxed and attentive

After some fun in the water we set off cruising - not quite enough wind for the sails so made way under motor

We enjoyed a lovely array of bread, cheeses, cold meats and warm Spanish omelette - plenty of beverages were provided throughout our trip…

Some more fun in the doughnuts and swimming - then someone spotted dolphins and we were dolphin spotting in gentle pursuit - our hosts as eager and thrilled as we were to spot them…

Four hours making memories in the med with the beautiful back drop of Estepona and it’s mountains behind..

Would we recommend - most definitely

“To discover new oceans you must first loss sign of your existing horizons”

Just do it - fair winds x

The trip was a surprise birthday present by our best friends and we spent a wonderful time on the boat. We even saw dolphins and the kids enjoyed the tube. We all had a lot of fun on the boat and will never forget this day! Special thanks to Robert, the skipper!
