The sweet smell of the orange blossom. The tinkling of the little fountain. Away from the traffic noise and fumes.

You reach it either from the Calle Terraza - go along the pedestrian street between the Donne clothes shop and the Loterías y Apuestas del Estado - buy yourself a lottery ticket while you're there! Or you can access it from the Plaza de las Flores - just go out by the elephant statue.

This is a delightful little square to sit in by day or by night. Magical!

And made better by the choice of places to eat and drink.

There's the Cafeteria La Italiana, for coffee, beer and spirits, cakes, sandwiches, and the most delectable home-made ice-creams - home-made by a Real Italian Family who own this. Then there's the Madubar with really quirky décor both inside and out - look at the painted wall! And finally for lovers of the typical Spanish cuisine, there's a traditional restaurant there too.

One point: be careful which table you sit at, out in the square. It's mainly quite obvious, except when the cafeteria and the restaurant tables get close to each other. The metal tables are the Italian cafeteria, the wooden chairs the restaurant.

When you've finished your drink, snack or meal, why not work off those calories with a stroll around the pretty flower-filled streets of the Centro Histórico?

Leave the Plaza Dr Arce by the exit to the Calle Terraza, turn left, then take the second street on the right, just round the bend, the Calle Bermudez.

And then just wander as your fancy takes you - you'll love it!

Gorgeous little square with some lovely restaurant but the cake/ice cream shop is amazing .. A large slice of cake & a drink was only 3.50 Euro such great value .. We visited many times during our 2 month stay

It's a lovely place, but beware of the amount of pickpockets and mugging as they are on the increase.
Watch your bags and lookout for people getting too close to you, they could be the potential thief.
We have suffered the distress of losing all our cards, driving license, etc. in the Main Street.

Just off the larger (and in my view much nicer ) Plaza de la Flores, Plaza Doctor Arce provides a number of eateries to stop off at whilst having a wander around the beautiful old town.

This plaza is just off the main one and much smaller. However it has a few great restaurants and is really busy with locals. Food restaurant called “Italian” but it’s more Spanish.

One of the nicest Plazas in the old town. Great places to eat (the fish restaurant is brilliant) and the greatest ice creams ever conceived are available in the coffee bar opposite. Always busy but a lovely place to relax and people watch. Gets busy early afternoon into the evening....

We enjoyed a tea and felt very relaxed by the water fountain. It is a good place to go after exploring the old town above it

A great spot to sit and enjoy a coffee, ice cream, beer or a glass of wine and people watch. Several restaurants and ice cream shops located in the square.
