Another charming square in Estepona, there seems to be one at every corner!

This one has a large fountain in the middle. Warning if you are travelling with children: it is perfectly reachable by little hands, and they will be standing by and dabbling their hands in no time! Wet shorts, dresses and t-shirts are guaranteed.

There is also one of the (fairly) famous Estepona statues, there must be 50 of them all round town, plus of course an excellent choice of places to eat and drink. We like the Brasas de Alberto, specializing in fabulous meat, or the Bar Chanchalay for more informal but equally delicious dining.

Whichever you choose, or even if you just decide to sit on a bench and listen to the tinkle of the fountain, this is a good spot to be in.

Plazleta Ortiz's redeeming feature is that it is on the sea front although there is a road in between the Plaza and the sea.
There are a few nice restaurants located within the Plaza and they are well worth a visit. When you walk around the Centro Historico you will find other more charming Plaza's.

Two years ago this was an untidy little square, cars parked bumper to bumper, and its main feature: five large rubbish containers.

:-)

But then they started the beautification of Estepona, with the 14,000 (yes, fourteen thousand!) plant pots distributed throughout the Centro Histórico. They took away the rubbish containers, ripped up the road and paved it to make it a pedestrian area, brought in huge cranes to plant trees, added flowers, and allowed the bars and restaurants to set out tables. They also installed a large statue with spotlights.

And it's now a much-frequented spot at any time of the day.

There are half-a-dozen places to eat or just sip a drink or a coffee. The Italian bar on the corner does lovely hot chocolate, there are two great meat restaurants, and when you've had your full, you can either stroll along the seafront Paseo Marítimo, or start a visit to the Centro Histórico. A good way to get there is to go up the rather scruffy little road at the back of the square, up towards some steps, but just before you reach the steps, turn left: you'll see a beautiful street tempting you to explore more!

The Plazoleta Ortiz is just off the main seafront road, with a life-size statue in black marble of a woman leaning forward, head in her hands. Who is she? Why is she sad? Who knows?

The entrance also has several "flower towers", a few of several dozen all along the seafont, bringing colour and delight wherever you go.

The square itself has a fountain in the middle, one which it is quite easy for children to dabble their fingers, and also on windy days to get a little spray. They love it!

There are often small children wizzing around on little scooters while their parents sit at the tables under the palm trees.

Because this square is all about eating, drinking, chatting with friends.

Hard to say which is our favourite. Bar Tolone does great shakes, smoothies and alcohol-free drinks, as well as all sorts of beer, wines, hard drinks, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

The Chanchalay bar, run by a delightful South American couple, serves great tapas and burgers at excellent prices. Las Brasas de Alberto at the back of the square is the to-go place for outstanding meat, or a special-occasion meal.

And other places too, different types of restaurants and bars, including a very popular cocktail bar, La Bulla, on the seafront corner.

You're just spoilt for choice!

Just stroll around looking and see what you fancy. It's usually buzzing.

When I read about Plazza Ortiz I thought it was a must to visit, but found it quite disappointing, yes it is a square and just off the seafront you have nice views of the coastline, but just not a lot going on around the square, not buzzing with atmosphere.

Another small square like the many in Estepona, this one with a bronze statute of a woman resting her head on her hand apparently regretting something, many bars and restaurants, a boutique hotel and an open area beloved by children.

Took a little walk around the town, beautiful Spanish houses for a local taste. With an estimated 3km of beach along the way. Sunny and nice weather for to spend you evening and end with dinner.
