As other reviews have described this monument is not only large but the detail is staggering.
Definitely worth a stop while in Cádiz. If you are fortunate you might also get to listen to the piano player who as not only very skilled but also presented a beautiful backdrop to this visit.

For most democratic countries the approval of a Constitution is a history landmark. In Spain the Constitution is known as the Cadiz Constitution because it was approved by the Cortes gathered in Cadiz. No wonder that the most majestic open air monument of this city is to remember that Historical moment. Enjoy!

This impressive monument commemorates the 1812 signing of the Spanish constitution in Cadiz - it's located directly opposite the cruise port in a small but pretty town park with a few statues and pretty trees with tropical birds (and pigeons) a plenty.

There's a lot of detail on the monument - it's fascinating and well worth checking out.

A gigantic monument replete with figures of myth and symbolism reflects the importance accruing to the seminal Constitution of 1812. It was inaugurated in 1912 marking the centenary of the great event.

Overall a most liberal document for its time, it was also one of the earliest written constitutions, protecting citizens’ rights.

Unfortunately two years later when the King resumed power he dissolved Parliament and re-imposed absolute Monarchy.

Since then and until 1975 Spain had turbulent times including the vicious Civil War of the 1930s. Nevertheless the 1812 document was an exemplar for written Constitutions of other countries.

This is a massive monument to celebrates the Spanish Constitution of 1812. Although the constitution is no longer used this monument recognizes the history on which today's Spain is built.
The constitution was drafted by the Cortes of Cadiz when it was one of the few free Spanish cities during the Peninsular War.
It was commissioned by the Spanish government in 1912 to celebrate the centennial of the Constitution of 1812. It was completed ten years later.
The monument has many levels and symbols of allegorical figures and terms. The large female figure represents Spain.

what can one write about one column is surprising (i'm referring to comments of other 160 reviews).. you come, you see it, you go - you can see everything on the photos and save yourself 15 minutes of walking from center.. if you're around there's no reason to miss it.

drinking water fountain next to it with some benches to chill out like born Spaniard
