For most democratic countries the approval of a Constitution is a history landmark. In Spain the Constitution is known as the Cadiz Constitution because it was approved by the Cortes gathered in Cadiz. No wonder that the most majestic open air monument of this city is to remember that Historical moment. Enjoy!

what can one write about one column is surprising (i'm referring to comments of other 160 reviews).. you come, you see it, you go - you can see everything on the photos and save yourself 15 minutes of walking from center.. if you're around there's no reason to miss it.

Although the constitution only last for just over a year, Cadiz citizens are proud of being the constitution being among the first in the world. The year following the writing of the constitution Napoleon released King Ferdinand who quickly put an end to it. The column, featuries has passages from the constitution and is flanked by sculptures symbolizing agriculture and citizenship. The two horsemen represent war and peace. On the other side is a statue of Hercules, mythical founder of Cadiz.

This large and ornate monument commemorates the signing of the Spanish constitution in Cadiz in 1812. It is worth sitting down on one of the beaches facing it to take it all in. The park is pretty too, with some of the ancient sprawling trees seen all around the city.
