Very pleased with the powerful flamenco performance, amazing dancers and musicians. The drinks and food that we had were also good quality. Probably the opening hours on here should be changed: being British early birds when we saw it opened at 8pm we arrived at 8:40pm for a 10pm show thinking we would settle in with some wine and tapas, but we were told it was too early…so had to go looking elsewhere for an hour!

We went to see this amazing show On saturday and were absolutely amazed. The level of skills put in one show was incredible. Amazing powerful dance act and great guitar and singing. A absolute treat to see and hear. The bar itself is lovely and the drinks great. Service is also very friendly. I would recommend not missing this when in Cadiz as it’s the best thing we did in our 4 days there.

I have spent another week in the Cadiz area from Tuesday 13 July to Tuesday 20 July 2010. I stayed at the TRYP La Caleta hotel again where I have been looked after well on previous visits.

On Wednesday 14 July I went to see a tablao flamenco (flamenco show) at La Cava Taberna Flamenco, Calle Antonio Lopez, 16 Bajo 11004 Cadiz. The home of Flamenco is considered to be the area around Sevilla, Jerez de la Frontera and Cadiz. It is believed that Flemenco evolved from songs brought to Spain by the gitanos (gypsy) who may have arrived in Spain from India in the 15th century. These songs were influenced by Muslim musicians and the chants used in Visigothic churches. The show, which was in a small bar, consisted of a guitar player, a singer and three dancers. The percussion to accompany the guitar was provided by the handclaps and foot stomping of the dancers. During the development of the guitar it is believed a sixth string was added by a guitar maker from Cadiz named Pages around 1790.

The show commenced at 10.00pm and lasted for around 90 minutes with a 10 minute interval. The cost is either €22.00 for the show and drinks or €39.00 or the show, drinks and six tapas. This show is pure Flamenco, the artists put their heart and soul into the performance. I have seen Flamenco in other parts of Spain which appear to be too choreographed but this show is the real thing. For anyone who would like to see authentic Flamenco I would recommend a visit to La Cava.

La Cava was a pleasure. The club is in the Old City and is a small venue with 60-70 seats at tables around a raised performance stage. We did the 21:30 drink and show for 22 Euros and all four in our group afterwards agreed it was worth every cent. One of us was a native of Cadiz and she was so enthusiastic about the dancing, the guitar and especially the singing that she was going to recommend La Cava to her family and friends. The show is 90 minutes with one break for a costume change. Don't miss it, but call ahead to get the best tables, it was a full house the night we attended. Photography is allowed in the club.

Authentic and thoroughly enjoyable! Gave us a taste of real flamenco- set in an intimate setting- three dancers; one singer and a guitarist who all performed at a very high standard.
Close by - within 5 min walking distance.
They was no problems with taking photographs.

We were recommended this place by the concierge at our hotel, who even assisted in getting a booking. A reservation is more or less essential, as all the tables were full.

It is c€20 per person, but includes a drink and a full evening of entertainment.

The flamenco was brilliant, very entertaining and I would certainly return.

The waiters in the bar are extremely attentive and you barely have to nod or lift a finger for another glass of wine to be in front of you.

Went with mum as part of a trip from our cruise. Had a fab time. Nice tapas and sangria. Excellent dancing and music. Thought it was going to be very touristy but was very authentic and we loved it. Could have stayed all day watching the dancing.

I reviewed this place in 2012 and I was glad to see that some years later, the place has kept consistent with excellent flamenco, atmosphere and soul. This time I took the food, salmonejo was nice, the venison not so much as there was no vegetables insight (the vegetables mentionned on the menu refer to the little onion gravy that makes the dish), I am still fully not convinced it was venison. But anyway, it is probably fair preparation for Cadiz and you come here for the flamenco. Don't miss it!

Hello Nadia. Thanks for your comments on the show!! We were delighted that he enjoyed flamenco show💃🏽💃🏽 About the food, the problem that you mention, we have transferred it to our kitchen team and they tell us that they were told what kind of vegetable sauce the venison has (really 100% venison). We hope you come back soon to Cádiz, and enjoy our flamenco show nights again!!

I read many of the reviews here and they were spot on. I've never seen flamenco and I was blown away. The dancers and the music were amazing. We also enjoyed some tapas and sangria during the show. The staff was very friendly and on top of everything. I can't recommend La Cava enough.

We emailed to reserve a seat. On arrival, they hadn't read our message.
We were offered a table, many in front of the stage were already reserved, not sure if that was done by phone. Fortunately, we were sat on our own with several empty tables around us.
The entrance cost €15 per person. This included a drink. We opted not to eat. Our wine, in my opinion was not good quality. To be honest, my wife thought it was ok. Later we ordered sherry and that was fine.
The show itself was excellent. The dancers and musicians gave their all.
The following night we went to Peña Flamenca La Perla, it costs €5 and was in a bigger venue.
If I was coming to Cadiz and had limited time, I'd opt for La Perla because it was great value for money. However, if you don't mind paying €15, La Cava is good entertainment. I would expect that it would be crowded in high season, so find a way to book ahead.
