    Beautiful and busy square
Large, lively and attractive square between the historical quarter and business district. At the centre is a statue to the Grand Captain in the middle of a fountain and also water jets which children play in. It is surrounded by cafes and shops. The Tendillas Clock strikes every 15 minutes but plays snippets of tunes on a guitar rather than chimes. Our hotel overlooked the square and it was lovely both in the day and at night.

    Great Captain Statue
Nice looking plaza with some beautiful architecture on the nearby buildings. The main focal piece of the plaza is the statue of the Great Captain, a 1927 equestrian sculpture in bronze, but oddly, its head is carved in white marble. There are also water jets that shoot up from the ground surface, would be a great place during to cool off during a hot summer day.

    Beautiful plaza
Nice place to visit as you wander the city. I wouldn’t call it a destination to specifically locate but once you arrive, it’s lovely to look at as you take a deep breath from your hectic day. For those who need their Starbucks fix, there is one right there. Enjoy.

This is the central point in Cordoba and a large and nice square also close to the Roman Forum. The commercial life of the city radiates from here as some of the most popular shopping streets begin here. Otherwise there are several grand buildings around the square including the Union & Phoenix buliding and the Colomena Palace among otthers. There is also a large fountain in the middle and on top of one of the buildings a watch where people gather on New Year's Eve to celebrate the new year. It feels more authentic here compared to the Historic Centre where most tourists stay.

Plaza de Las Tendillas is a central area of Cordoba. It is meant to be the commercial centre of the city. Several important commercial buildings are located there. Important city buildings such as La Unión y el Fénix, the Enriquez Barrios House, the Luis de Góngora Institute and the Colomera Palace are all located in this area. They all have a story to tell. In the centre of the plaza is the equestrian monument to the Great Captain, an important historical figure in the history of Cordoba. And the well known Tendillas Clock, which welcomes every new Year on the last day of December, is also located atop a corner building in the Plaza. And then there are the cafes and several eateries in the vicinity. The plaza has some lovely greenery and seats to use for tired bodies. We certainly enjoyed our short time in this plaza.

The first evening we walked around the cathedral.
It was quite strange that there weren't many tourists in the area, until we got here.
This area is bustling with life.
Good hotels around the square.
All the streets leading to it are intertwined with leading fashion stores and tourists thirsty for shopping.
In the evening, here you will find the main activity of the young people, pubs and good restaurants.
Here you will also find a place to purchase a local cell phone card

If you only have a day in Cordoba, you won’t have time to visit this plaza. However, we had a couple of days so one afternoon, we did a looped walk from the old town, up to Plaza de las Tendillas, past the Roman ruins, through the Corredera markets and back along the Guadalquivir river to the ancient Roman bridge. It’s only 8-10 min from the Mezquita.
The plaza is a large-scale, open space, designed in the 1920s and surrounded by grand creamy white buildings and green shady trees, with a central fountain and a set of 16 water jets that leap out of the pavement (great fun for kids in summer).
It’s a nice spot to sit outside at one of the several cafes or restaurants.
The statue you see in the middle is the great military general, Gonzalo de Córdoba, also known as "El Gran Capitan’. A curious thing about this statue is that the white marble head doesn't match his dark bronze body and horse body. Did he lose his head? Did someone steal it? Did he get a shock and turn white with fright? It seems that nobody really knows.
I particularly liked the wonderful, winged statue on top of the black dome of the Union & Phoenix Building (1926). At first glance, it looks like an angel but in fact it is a man riding on the wings of a phoenix.
This is also the place where people gather at midnight on New Year’s Eve to hear the Tendillas Clock bring in the new year.
If you walk a minute or two downhill, you’ll find the Roman temple.

My wife and I stayed in an Airbnb apartment which was only two blocks away from Plaza de Las Tendillas in Cordoba during our trip to Spain this past November. We walked through the plaza on our way to the Mezquita and on our way to restaurant LaFuente 12. It is a broad plaza with buildings with impressive architecture.

A lovely meeting place with numerous bars and restaurants. Feeling cool with the sound from the fountains makes it a very pleasant place to stop for a coffee

The restaurant scene above this square is truly hopping at night! You have restaurants, pharmacies, coffee houses, and retail open until the later evening hours.
