This is what is known as a Fernandine Church, in that it was constructed as part of King Ferdinand's Christianisation of his conquest of Islamic territory in the Iberian peninsula. It is in fact the oldest Fernandine Church, and there is a reference to services having been conducted there in 1277. When I visited on a Sunday afternoon the doors were locked. It seems that churches in Spain during the Covid-19 crisis are open only during service time. Nonetheless, it is interesting to view it from the outside.

I traveled to Córdoba with an elderly person and during the visit he got a heat stroke when entering this church. The attention received by the man who was watching her was excellent. He even did us the favor of getting us the teletaxi phone number so we could leave the temple and go to a place to recover. I can't say anything other than thanks to the person who guarded the entrance to the church on the afternoon of May 7th.

The Santa Marina de Aguas Santas Church is the oldest church in Cordoba and dates to the Visigothic times, from the 7th century. Later it was reconstructed in the Fernandino style, the style that Fernando III constructed in Cordoba after he conquered the city from the Moors. There are four bulwarks on the western façade that give the church the look of a military fortress. The church has three facades with Romanesque capitals. The bell tower was constructed in the 16th century and was the work of the architect Hernan Ruiz el Joven. The church has three naves, with the central nave being the highest of the three. The Orozco Chapel has a beautiful Mudejar style. Artistic treasures are the retable of the Virgen del Rosario, the oil painting of Santa Marina, and the Virgen de la Luz sculpture by Gomez de Sandoval. The retable of the main chapel has paintings by Antonio del Castillo

Santa Marina de Aguas Santas Church is one of the Reconquest churches built in the 14th century after the Moors were expelled. It has an impressive rose window and tower which is a later addition.

The present Church dates from the 13th Century being built on the site of a much older incarnation ! But alas, again on our Cordoba sojourn we came across a locked up tight church and could only view the gritty exterior, still very nice though ?

Beautiful church in the old part of the city and with many reasons of interest ranging from its architecture to its very beautiful interior. It is one of the oldest Fernandina churches in the city.
