We were staying outside Torre del Mar and decided to take a day trip to Almeria as we hadn’t been for several years. Plenty of parking options and the walk was lovely in the shaded Paseo. Lots of options to eat and drink and there seemed to be a bit of a positive buzz in the town following the long lockdown. Have to say that the one thing that struck me was that it is not as clean as in previous years with lots of litter lying around. The walk along the beaches was lovely as well.

This is the main shopping street in town with options for refreshments to break up the retail therapy. Plenty of parking options too if you are driving but beware the one way streets

Hot and sunny. Lovely for swimming and warm enough at night to eat al fresco in t shirt and shorts. Almeria was not as clean as in previous times - city authority cleaning staff much less in evidence than in previous years. Very relaxed and friendly and so very safe.

It is nice to walk around downtown and get a view of the city. I really love the stores at Avenida de Almeria and also the park at Plaza de Emilio Lopez. The palm trees are gorgeous around the park and the plaza.

Lovely walk down to the seafront from our bus stop. We saw the Almeria sign and had to take a tourist photograph.

It could be the lateness of the season but we didn’t really enjoy Almeria. To many empty shops and everything seems to be just a little too frayed at the edges. Perhaps in high season it would be more bustling but we found it a bit soulless.

The Paseo de Almería (and surrounding streets) is a perfect place for shopping and breathing the Andalusian atmosphere. But stay away of the Aguaviva terrace. You will not find this bar/tappas restaurant on any review sites, and now we know why. We ordered, in total 5 drinks, which will be accompanied by 5 tapas of your choice, that are priced €1,50 on the card. When you order something else, you get a €0,60 discount per drink, for not having the tapas. That's the first €4,50 net margin for Aguavive out of you pocket, for doing nothing. Than the serve you 2 buns of bread, unasked for, but charge you €1,90. But a salad that would cost you not more than €5-€7 in other restaurants is served for €12,00, and a calamaris plancha (100 grams or so) will set you back €12,50, 6 croquettes €9,00 and a simple and small desert €5,00. All together €52,00 for an hour eating and drinking, that would probably cost you €20-€25 elsewhere. Be warned!

Lots of choice, great sales and recognised chains such as H&M, Mango. Very long strip, with some places to eat an drink as well.

This province is underrated. It’s down on the Mediterranean and it’s worth exploring. Almerienses are not necessarily friendly, go for the seafood and panoramic views, the beaches and relaxation.
