About
The 48-hectare Park on the Ilm is a marvellously landscaped garden situated on the edge of Weimar’s historic downtown. It was here that Duke Carl August and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe made their gardening ideas a reality. They created a walkable work of art with diverse views of the landscape, park structures and numerous places to sit down and contemplate. Today, the Park on the Ilm continues to offer visitors a place to relax, learn and enjoy nature’s beauty.

Simply enchanting, relaxing and surprising. The high and low water levels of the Ilm in the last six months were very impressive for me. The park is very well maintained and yet there are many animals (e.g. squirrels, swans, mallards) to observe and admire if you enjoy nature in silence. My greatest experience was a robin that sang at full voice and was not at all disturbed by me walking past at a distance of 1m.

The Ilm Park, which rises along the banks of the river itself, is an immense public park that develops close to the historic center of Weimar. It is not only a pleasant place for walks or outdoor activities but inside you can find statues, monuments and historic residences that can be visited individually, such as the Roman house and Goethe's garden house. From what I saw, it also seemed reasonably well looked after.

it is a really nice place for chill out, jugging, BBQ and pets friendly. You can ride your bike from north to the south of Weimar which is connecting Belvedereschloss to Ehringsdorf. On Ehringsdorf you can visit Weimar beer brewery factory and on Belvederer the castle and museum which is nice. It takes about 30-45 min to go from north to south depends on your speed.

It’s strange that this park is so incredibly dull considering that it’s located in one of Germany’s finest old citys.
You’ll find Goethes garden house + garden here - and also treasures for geology lovers - but for ordinary people the park offers limited fun, sorry to say.

This is a great park -- probably the nicest park I've seen. It follows the Ilm, and is a short walk from the center of the old town (perhaps 200 meters), with numerous smaller areas separated by landscaping. There are vistas, relaxing benches in ones and twos throughout the park, sculpture, multiple museum-level attractions (Goethe's garden house and the Roman house), fields, and paths. In the summer, the weather is often beautiful.

After reading the great reviews we decided to visit the park. It's huge and whilst we did initially lose our way finding the Garten house we stumbled across a Russian graveyard which in the frost was thought provoking. The park is vast and beautiful. So many people were there just enjoying the tranquility. Great place!

Parks don't really get any better than this - and I really am not that much of a fan of wandering through parks.
But walking through this particular park is a memorable experience at all times of year. It is beautiful in every season. Summer evenings are bliss - Goethe's Garden House, Liszt's House, the Bauhaus centre, the Shakespeare Statue, little paths along the Ilm, the Castle, people picnicking... Pure heaven.
Don't miss it.
It is such a central part of this beautiful city.
