About
Perched upon a hill to the south of Weimar in the middle of a spacious park with an orangery, pleasure garden and labyrinth lies Belvedere Castle, the former Baroque summer residence of the ducal family of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach. Since 1923 the castle has been used as a museum of the arts and crafts dating back to the 18th century, featuring exquisite porcelain works once owned by Weimar’s ducal dynasty. The Park is free all year long.

Bus number 1 from Hauptbahnhof Weimar stop closest to Belvedere Palace - still is a 20 minutes rather steep up-hill walk.
The walk down to Bus Stop Number 1 Bus for return to Weimar less stressful, but still 20 minutes.
Visiting the main residency, no shoulder wallet bags that after you pay your admission fee, to leave your shoulder bag in a locker is another 1 Euro and at no stage told paying our admission fee, your shoulder wallet bag has to be left in a locker, just ALL seemed a bit dysfunctional.
Glad we visited Belvedere Palace and walk around principal gardens and "Orangery" House.

During our trip to Germany we go to Weimar for a day. We go to Schloss Belvedere. It's located 5 km above the city centre. It has beautiful garden known as Russian garden. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation and we saw it from outside, but it was and amazing structure.

The huge park is absolutely worth a visit.
And the greenhouse is a must-see, too. The entry fee is 2,50 per person. The park is free, you just have to pay to park your car.

People come to Weimar to visit Goethe's and Schiller's houses, which may be quite interesting in a (limited, in my view) way, but this little precious château is simply stunning! It is so beautiful, the view is so nice (hence the name...) and it shows you what man can do ... if only he has the money (and the taste, I might add...).

We were invited to see the chateau by family. The exterior looked recently renovated and to a certain extend modern. There is easy access from the car park to the chateau, however their is no disabled access and the parking is pay & display.

We were able to get English audio guides which were included in the ticket price. The guide was informative and well translated. The downside however, was that the exhibition focused on objects (porcelain) rather than the rooms and history. The tour finishes in the gardens, which were well maintained and peaceful. Visitors are able to see the gardens (recommended) without an entry fee.

We would recommend to take a picnic along to enjoy the gardens (in nice weather), whilst not forgetting spare change for the car park!

It really is worth the ride out on the No.1 bus to see this regal example of how the German nobility used to live (or better still, walk out along the tree lined Belvederer Allee and take the bus back). The grounds in the Autumn sunshine and colours were just amazing, and invited endless photos! Even if you don't want to visit the Schloss, the hilly grounds can be visited free of charge, and there are many monuments, statues and fountains, as well as the Schloss garden. There is a pleasant cafe nearby, with a view over the Thüringen landscape, just beside the bus stop. The rooms of the Schloss themselves are definitely worth the entry fee, unlike those at nearby Schloss Tiefurt. Even if faience and porcelain is not your thing (it's not my thing), the collection on show takes your breath away by its quality of craftmanship and detail. The music Hochschule has some practice and teaching rooms in a building next to the Schloss.

Unfortunately the Castle was closed for our visit. So a stroll around the park was the only thing available. Impressive for a hunting lodge!

Very well restored castle just outside Weimar. You can walk around with the audio guide and enjoy the exhibit - a lot of it is porcelain, glass, paintings etc. There are a bit of furniture here and there, but in general the rooms are not furnished, however, the rooms are beautiful in themselves. There is a beautiful park by the castle, and well worth a stroll if the weather is nice.
