This house is beautifully located in the Park on the Ilm, but there's not much old furniture still left in the house, so it's hard to get an impression of how it might have looked when Goethe lived there.

Although I truly loved visiting Goethe's city home at Goetheplatz, the garden house makes one feel a bit closer to the man and not just the image. Located on the edge of the outstandingly beautiful park, this was Goethe's first home in Weimar and worlds away from his city residence. Small, quaint and very simple, many of his personal belongings... More

This place is a hidden charm in Weimar. In the museum it showcases a lot of manuscripts of the great poet, many written exactly in this house.

Garden and the house were a pleasant interlude in a VERY pleasant park walk. Well worth a short stop if such things interest you. The old house is very simple but that is one of its attractions. Garden has a wide range of interesting plants.

If you love Goethe you might enjoy it, it was nice but not more than that. For me it was nothing special

Whilst not having read Goethe ourselves, we were of course aware of his work and importance in Weimar. The tour of the house at six euros was very reasonable and this includes audio. Tour takes about 30 minutes. Tour was very interesting, particularly the original works and sketches and the pleasant walk from the town.

A super cute little garden house in the middle of a stunning park. Quite expensive for what you get, but for fans of Goethe the audio guide is detailed and very informative with some fun idiosyncrasies about the poet and his time spent here. Be prepared to walk as the house isn't near the centre of the Weimar town. Nevertheless,... More

We were refused an audio guide which is included in the very expensive entrance fee of 12 euros because we didn't have a passport or driving licence with us to deposit. We offered to leave a credit card which has always worked in German museums before but the attendant said 'no passport no guide'. Do they really think that we... More
