The monument of Goethe and Schiller is located in front of the German National Theatre. The bronze sculptures are very detailed.

In fact, Schiller was higher than Goethe, but the artist, Ernst Rietschel, has chosen to make them about the same hight.

Goethe and Schiller are probably the two most famous authors in German history and they both lived at least part of their lives in Weimar. This statue commemorates their place in the history of Weimar. It stands in front of the German National Theater, where the Weimar Republic was founded. It is an iconic photo spot and a great meeting spot as well. Worth a quick visit.

Goethe and Schiller together as it should be. My two favorite German writers. Great location across from the building where the Weimar Republic was founded. History!!

On the heart of weimar is the national theater and the schiller and goethe statue to make it more interesting place to visit. on christmas days it is amazing by doing ice skating and on summer you can have your ice cream and enjoy watching people. Just an annoying part is the skate board players which make this place so noisy and a bit dangerous to harm you.

Apparently it’s a famous statue and I noticed that it’s in the road shields from Thuringia. But it’s an statue and that’s pretty average. A famous one yes, but a very generic statue.

So famous, in fact, that there are multiple copies of it in other parts of the world, specifically in the USA and China. Apparently one of (if not the first) the earliest dual statues. Goethe and Schiller are two of the many famous Germans who resided in Weimar. This statue, outside the Deutsche National Theatre, is virtually the symbol of Weimar. It is a standard meeting place and the centre of many town activities.

The monument dedicated to the two most representative figures in German literature is clearly visible in the center of Weimar Theater Square. The work is rather simple and consists of an unadorned stone base on which the two bronze statues depicting Schiller and Goethe rest. A fitting monument to the two most illustrious fellow citizens.

I don't know how many of the people who take a photo of this monument have ever read anything by Goethe or Schiller. I suspect there is a big discrepancy. This monument is a nice decoration for the square, nothing more.

The famous monument stands in front of the theater, right in the center of Weimar. A must for a photo, as proof of your visit to Weimar. While the tourist destinations in Weimar usually have hefty entrance fees, this motif is even free :-)
