The “Weimar Haus” is a little private museum. A big Goethe-figure stands in one of the main streets, pointing at the entrance and promoting the museum. Touristified in a way that I normally never would go in there. Well, this time it started to rain and we decided to have a look. Lucky us. What a precious little museum this is. By leading you from room to room – all very nicely decorated – it is telling you the story of Weimar from stone age until the classic period. You see pictures, movies and listen to a well-spoken text. If you understand just a bit of German, you will get the benefits out of this, since they have a very good acoustical arrangement. It all takes you about 25 minutes. I must say that I have not seen such thing as this museum before. Weimar is full of fantastic museums, showrooms, theaters, palaces and you name it. All of these are certainly more famous and grandiose than this little one, but I give it all the 5 stars. I really recommend it.

This attraction setting out the history of Weimar in separate rooms with multi media elements is probably aimed at children. There are "performances" in English. The big snag is that having gone into each room, there is nowhere to sit down which is a real disadvantage if you are getting on in years or just come to the end of a day sightseeing.

Really interesting and well thought out museum. Mixture of waxwork figures and overhead audio commentary English and German, depicting the history of Weimar from the dark ages to the 19th century. Goethe is your "host" throughout this 30 minute trip. Enjoyable for adults and kids. Would be good if they extended the history to include the 19th and 20th centuries too.

It's a museum about the history of Weimar during the Middle Ages and with a focus on famous inhabitants such as Goethe, Schiller, Herder, etc.
The set-up is excellent, because of the decoration, the tapes and the way it is presented. I mean, your are guided through the museum by tapes explaining key events and the clear sequence of where to go and how much time to spend. We had our two boys (15 & 13 yrs) with us and before they were like typical teenagers ("I don't want this"; " Why do we have to go here"; etc.), but we were all captured and interested in the show from the first minute. Overall it takes about 30 to 45 minutes; perfect.

If you're coming to Weimar with little kids, visit this for an overview of Weimar's history. But for adults, you can safely skip it.

The museum store carries a lot of reasonably priced souvenir! Once stopped by for some gingko-leavf shaped jewelry.

Great pastries on the Square! Try the strudel, people watch on the Square, and take a selfie with Goethe and his friend. Sample the wide variety of cakes and cookies; they have wonderful sandwiches.

Who knew that Goethe was alive and well and living as a tour-guide in this funny little museum. He was an excellent guide, leading us through all the happenings of Weimar through the ages. An excellent off-beat museum for all ages.
