Didn't expect fortifications on this scale, it covers a large area with its various bastions radiating out. The buildings on the top are in various conditions from dilapidated to fully occupied eg the Stasi archive. It affords good views over the town. Without much information...More

We didn't do a tour of the Zitadelle - although, we ran into one or two - but we did have a lovely time unwinding after a day of sightseeing. The Zitadelle is still used by the local government (we even saw a wedding!) and...More

This place is, again, a surprise! you would expect is to be some small ruins of a once-strong and big castel, but it has so much more to offer! The most important thing is probably the view over the Dom, Somplatz and the entire center...More

There is a guided tour of the castle every day at 1730 hours. Very interesting and you get to visit the lowest and very dark parts of the castle.

An old fortification in the main part of the city near the central square. A lot of old walls remained there. And of course a great city-view opens from these ancient walls.

From Domplatz, the citadel looks like an interesting fortification, but in fact you get no idea of its huge scale. This really is worth making the effort to explore. From the top, walk round the fortifications, admiring as well the views of the cathedral and...More
