Nice market, lovely cathedral

What else to say? It's a Plaza with a cute market, and a great view of the cathedral, which is one of the more architecturally interesting ones I've seen from the outside.

This sight is hard to beat - 2 beautiful old churches on a small hill, surrounded by a medieval city with the backdrop of an old fortress..

Domplatz must be one of the most impressive old town squares in central Europe, dominated by the huge Cathedral and its next-door neighbour, the church of St Severus.

The large plaza is located in the main city, below the cathedral and old barracks. It's a lovely wide open space with great views of the stunning cathedral. There are roads back into the busy streets just at the edge of the plaza and it links the city together nicely. There is also a tram stop here. When I was... More

The plaza is very large with shops and restaurants on one side, and a beautiful cathedral and church up on the hill above the plaza. During the morning, visit the farmer's market! Come after sunset to see the lights on the cathedral! Beautiful!!

When you tour around Erfurt you can't understand why such an impressive place doesn't feature on more tourist itineraries. I've visited cities all over Germany and few of the smaller towns can rival Erfurt. There is a splendid view in all directions from this square, and the trams provide some added colour. Both churches are impressive, and mid way up... More

This was the largest of many Platzes around town. A fair, with rides and games, was set up for the week while we were there, indicating the importance of these public spaces in these old towns over the centuries that they have been there. Sometimes they are empty, and sometimes they are used for local events that everyone can walk... More

Old church overlooking Erfurt xmas markets. A lot of steps though so not great for disabled or elderly. Church itself very peaceful.

One of the biggest market squares we've seen. Not a lot happening in February, just a few purveyors of local produce and the sausage seller. A very nice bratwurst mit brotchen thank you. Good views up the stairs to the religious buildings and the Zitadelle to your right.

Erfurt possesses one of the biggest, most famous Christmas market of Germany. With St.Marien and Severli Cathedral behind, plus the colorful light from the shops in the market, and the remarkable ferris wheel, as if the domplatz has come into life. There are plenty of Christmas markets in Erfurt, this is the biggest. Just don't expect too much from the... More
