Beautiful square with the opera house as its focal point. Immediately in front a lovely fountain so relaxing to sit there while waiting for a performance or tram---the tram stop is right there so convenient --the Hauptbahnhof is just a short ride away.

Ein Guter Treffpunkt! When the sun is shining, a coffee or beer on the steps of the opera makes for a great chilled place to sit!

Four nice buildings on a square is as good as most cities can boast: the austere Opera House, the DDR-style Gewandhaus concert hall, a modern crystal of a church, and one of Leipzig's Tyler skyscrapers

Very nice cellar restaurant. Great food. Not too expensive. Try the local dark beer and the daily special!

with a short walk from many of hotels located in city centre you will reach Augustusplatz where the Opera House and Gewandhaus is located. Recommended to visit on your trip to Leippzig.

with interesting architecture around it, a mixture of ancient, stalinistic, highly modern. And very lively.

We overlooked this from our hotel. Came to life when a fruit and veg plus flower market set up. Nicely lit at night.

At Augustusplatz there's opera, gewandhaus concerthall and university building, which is very peculiar. At DDR there was old medieval church, which was detonated away, and ugly university campus built instead. Couple of years ago when it was time to rip off ruined university buildings new premises for university were built to mimic facade of church. Result, in gray stone, is... More
