It was really just an average plaza in the center of the city. If you take a tram, you will pass through it. I used it as a marker for orientation purposes. A large fountain that was sometimes working and sometimes not, and large yellow...More

We attended a program of the Leipzig Ballet Company (really more modern dance than ballet) at the Opera House on Agustusplatz. While the square is lovely, the Opera House is more utilitarian than grand. It does have good sight lines for viewing, but neither the...More

I just found this as a large open area, not much to see and do, fountains were not working as it was early Easter weekend etc. But if your walking around town it wont hurt to pass through

The square may not be very interesting in general, but in December there is the christmas market with thematic highligts. (Tirol market and scandinavian market this year). And you can find an amusement park for kids too; but only till Dec 23rd.

The square itself is not specially charming but it is bordered by a number of interesting buildings and therefore an almost obligate addition to any circuit in the center of town. A good part of it is pedestrian.

This is a beautiful open square. You can see nice buildings like the Opera house, concert hall and the University of Leipzig. It is part of the city center and within walking distance to the Market square, main shopping area and many other attractions.

Taxi from Leipzig airport (4 Replies)
Anyone know how much for a Taxi, and how long it would take, from LEJ to the Radisson at Augustusplatz? I.e. is it much faster (and how much more expensive) than the train?

Taxi would be about 25 or 30 Euro if not more I guess. Train fare is max. 6 Euro, depending on which train (IC is most expensive, regional trains are cheaper) to Hauptbahnhof (main station). Trains take 12 or 14 minutes. From Hauptbahnhof take a tram (only one stop) to Augustusplatz where the Radisson is located. With a regional train the fare for the tram is already included in the train ride.
