A brilliant little railway in nice park
Apr 2019 • Solo
This is a survival of the old communist era childrens railways. It was all very well kept and entirely staffed by teenagers (except the engine drivers). All stations were staffed. On Sunday afternoon there were 2 trains in circuit, one steam and one diesel running a round trip taking about 50 mins, Trains ran every 30 mins. Passengers can hop off, look around (eg Zoo) and get back on later.

Fun ride
Oct 2018 • Solo
If you want to ride behind steam, you have to choose your day, and nothing runs on Mondays. It is a pleasant ride through the park, and the duck lake was very scenic. I got off at the Zoo station only to find the back entrance to the Zoo only opens on weekends in certain months. It is a long walk around.

Great fun!

We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the beautiful and vast Grosser Garten but we couldn't resist taking a ride on the miniature railway particularly as it was a warm day and we needed to put our feet up for a while. It's not that cheap especially if you're travelling with children but it's really enjoyable especially as the route is over three miles long and passes through pretty scenery. We were lucky enough to have been hauled by one of the wonderful steam locomotives which made all the right noises and gave off all the right smells to make one nostalgic for the days of steam. The system is run professionally and competently by students and school pupils who took their responsibilities very seriously. Perhaps they were a little fed up too because it was an adult who had the best job of driving the steam locomotive although I’m sure and hope they had a little go when there were no passengers. A really nice change from all the other city centre attractions.

Must do with children or adults who like railroads. The Parkeisenbahn is a model railroad where you can ride along. It is operated by children and adolescents who function as stationmaster or supervisor. The only adults I have seen were the engineers.
A complete tour of the Parkeisenbahn by train takes about 30 minutes !! Check out the time schedules : the steamlocomotives only operate in the weekends when I was there.
Combine a ride with the Parkeisenbahn with a visit to the Dresden zoo.

Awesome Experience - Just Relax & take a tour of the Great Garden
Aug 2016 • Family
Amazing Experience specially the Kids as the Ticket Examiner in the Parkeisenbahn. Nice way to relax and Enjoy the Great Garden.

While taking the Ticket you have to be carefull. As the destination Zoo Comes twice on the route. So there is a 2 Euro Ride to Zoo (which is the next stop) and then there is a 5 Euro Ride to Zoo (which is the second last stop - so they take you around and then bring you back to the zoo)

Nice way to see the park
Jul 2016 • Family
We visited on a Friday afternoon with two friends and their young daughter. The trip was fun although the prices of 6€ per adult and 3€ per child is quite expensive. Nevertheless it's worth visiting.

Must-do with kids

The Park-railway is great fun. Although somewhat out of the city centre it is a great attraction for young and old. Especially since the staff is comprised of (very seriously working) children. They are really making an effort to give you a nice trip. We took the full tour of the park (about 40 min..) which is really nice. Everything is well taken care of, card sales, souvenirs, bath rooms etc are all present.

What a wonderful way to see the park.

This is a miniature train that runs thru the park with different stops you get off at, one being the zoo. We just took the 1/2 train ride around the park, what a lovely way to relax and take in parts of the park you may not get to enjoy. Truly enjoyable little ride. Makes you feel young again.

A railway run by children
Jun 2014 • Couples
This railway is rather bizarre as it is run totally, apart from the driver of the train, by children. They looked to vary in age between about 11 and 17 but it was hard to tell. They were highly efficient and knew exactly what they were doing and all were in uniform but some smiles wouldn't have gone amiss. All were severe and serious. We came across the miniature train by accident whilst walking across the park and enjoyed our ride for a couple of stops. It would be absolutely great for children as it travels quite a way round the park and stops at many stations , including the zoo. Would be a great family day out.
