About
The "wondrous" aspect of this bridge that spans the Elbe is its construction. It is one of the first steel suspension bridges in the world requiring no supporting piers in the water.

Had Visited the Place and this is Great piece of Architecture in Dresden. Germany has recreated Dresden in a Remarkable way after unification.

We had nice weather and decided to walk along the Elbe to the Blue Wonder, about 3.5 miles from the Augustus Bridge in Dresden. Along the way are three palaces on the other side of the river that display the grandeur that represents the real estate in this area. The bridge itself was completed in 1893 and not bombed in WW II and is indeed blue in color. Underneath is an inviting biergarten where you can relax and view the river.

Decided to take a short excursion to visit what appeared to be an attraction off the beaten tourist track. It was. I took a tram from the Altmarkt station and the tram ride took me through real Dresden neighborhoods. The Blue Bridge isn't as spectacular as some bridges (don't compare it to the Golden Gate), but its setting is surprisingly lovely. The bridge is set in a large, leafy park being enjoyed by bicyclists, walkers, joggers, children playing, ... altogether charming. There's even a funicular/cable car going up a small mountain across the river. Very picturesque and I indeed took several photos, with the bridge shining in the background. Then I spied a dock at the river's edge. Even with my limited German I knew the sign said Do Not Even Think of Walking Out On the Dock Unless You Plan to Take the Ferry. Well, I crept out with my trusty camera and shot a couple of last minute photos when, almost as a sign from God, I spied the Ferry heading toward me. Even though it cost a few Euro more than returning by tram it turned into one of the most serendipitous experiences of my stay in Dresden. There was a pre-recorded tour, mostly in German, but I understood that we passed several famous mansions, vineyards, even a water treatment plant that was definitely more interesting than it sounds. Approaching the city with the sun beginning to set over the church spires made me forget how artificial Dresden is. A hop and skip took me back to the hotel where my friends were waiting to go to dinner.

This bridge is historical. Apart from that, nothing special. There are people who really like it, especially Germans. For us, ok.

The bridge is BLUE built before the the WWII and was not damaged. Crosses the Elbe a wee bit out of town. worth a visit.

On a recent trip to Dresden I stayed at the Blue Wonder Hotel which was named after this bridge and is about 800 metres away. That being the case I just had to come and see it.
The weekend before I had been to Bristol and marvelled at the Clifton suspension bridge which quite frankly knocks this into a cocked hat!
Not really an awe inspiring structure, has some graffiti daubed on it and not even Blue now as the paint is so old and faded. This I presume is typical of the way things were left to deteriorate when it was under communist rule although the wall did come down in 1989. OK to see but nothing special and certainly not "Wonder" in my book.

We saw this from the steam boat, with commentary from the guide. I'm not sure it's worth a special trip out to see it.

You wonder how they managed to build this bridge in less than 2 years 120 years ago. The most important fact is probably that it was saved from destruction by at least 3 different people towards the end of the world war and the only remaining bridge for the Soviet army to cross the river Elbe.

Wouldn't necessarily travel to see the bridge but the neighbourhoods at the both ends of the bridge were nice and worth visiting. It photographs well though ;)

We did a leisurely stroll across the bridge and walked to a square. It was out of the touristy area. Along the way we window shopped various retail outlets, coffee shops and restaurants
