It's a short walk from the city, and when we were there, a festival was ongoing with films, theatre, etc... which made it even more worthwile. You get the famous look on the city, for a nice panoramic photo.
Do use photoshop afterwards however, to remove the many cranes that Canaletto did not have on his painting :-)

The Canaletto Blick is a part of the north bank of the River Elbe that has nice views of the south bank including Augustus Bridge, Residenzschloss, Dresden Cathedral and the Semperoper, all from one place. In truth, there are many places along either banks of the river where you can get great views, so there's no need to go out of the way to visit this spot. Although you won't be disappointed if you do.

If you take a walk by the river Elbe you can see the beautiful view of Dresden's historical center, from the same spot where Canaletto made his famous painting.

A place on the other bank of the river Elbe, near the Augustus Bridge. You can see the historical centre from there and compare the present view with the same view depicted by Canaletto almost 300 years ago.

Waterfront is filled with buildings with SUPERB GRAND architecture and GOLDEN statues on top of the buildings.

Many benches along water front to sit and relax and enjoy the view for an hour. Plus outdoor restaurants to do the same and relax with food and drinks.

LOVELY EXPERIENCE

I saw Canaletto painting and I made my own pictures there, as Canaletto! I feel like I was leaving in his timeline, interesting idea. The reconstruction work was amazing.

They are fixing the bridge so the future is brighter. Not much to access here now. But old paintings show this was the place to be seen and be seen.

This is where Bernardo Canaletto stood to paint his famous panoramic view of Dresden, and it still looks much the same today. Impossible to resist taking several photos when standing in this spot.

Cross the Augustus Bridge. When you get to the Neustadt side of the river walk to your left along the banks of the Elbe until you see a large red frame. The City of Dresden has created a photo op there so that you can see the exact spot the 18th Century Venetian painter Canaletto created his still famous Panorama of Dresden. The original painting can be viewed in the Gemalde Gallerie alte Meister ( Old Masters picture Gallery). Both the scene from the River bank and the painting of this view are very lovely. Zwinger.
