I did this with my 20 year old daughter. At the outset I confessed I found Vonnegut's style challenging. Danilo, our expert guide, agreed. Over the next two stimulating hours he put the Dresden bombing in context and helped us get a firm idea of what happened on that terrible night in February 1944. He walked us to the slaughterhouse,... More

First, I am a history geek who loves all things Vonnegut. I was prepared to be disappointed by the tour but instead it was extremely interesting and fun. Our guide, Danilo was very good at bringing the history of Dresden to life, drawing parallels between the past and present, and telling the tale of Vonnegut, Billy Pilgrim, and the bombing... More

You don't have to be a fan of the book to enjoy this tour although of course it helps. It is quite a long time to be walking so wear good shoes. Our guide, Danilo had a refreshingly honest view of history and modern Germany. We spent a good 2 hours of more walking and talking. The Slaughterhouse is now... More

Being a long-time Kurt Vonnegut fan, I was extremely happy to find this tour of Dresden, and I was not disappointed. The guide, Danilo, offered a whole lot of information about Vonnegut, Dresden's role in WW2, and about the political situation both now and during WW2. I might think differently in some matters, but this tour sure gave me a... More

Whether you're a Vonnegut groupie, a history aficionado, or just want a better understanding of Dresden's role in WWII, this is a great tour! Danilo was a fantastic tour guide. He made sure we understood the significance of Dresden as a target and how Vonnegut spent his time as a POW there. We started in the old town, walked along... More

The concept of the tour is good. You meet in the Theaterplatz, walk a short way to a stop beside the river, and then walk a bit further to the Slaughterhouse Five complex. But because the property is privately-owned, there is no guarantee you will be able to access the interior of the building where Vonnegut was held as a... More

If you came to Dresden because you are a fan of kurt Vonnegut, you read slaughterhouse 5, or you simply want to chat about the state of the world now, then, and when will be, take the tour. It's only some pennies. Danilo is great. He brings humor and interest, as well as a local mind, to the conversation you... More

A couple of hours in Danilo's company flew by, with a thoughtful and comprehensive guide to Dresden and how Vonnegut Jr.'s novel and life connect with the city's history. If you have an interest in history, heritage, or the author, don't miss out on this marvellous tour.

I took this tour mainly because Dresden has no WW2 tours at all. The book I love also. It didn't disappoint - we had History, Biography, Book Scenes - We had it all. Danilo is a history lover, full with fascinating information and as a resident of Dresden, also out of the history books information. I recommend this tour to... More

This was a nice surprise for my short stay in Dresden. The tour guide is very passionate and well-versed in the history of Dresden, WWII, and Kurt Vonnegut. I really liked how he also connects history to the present, to put things in perspective. Although the sights have been mostly whitewashed, his descriptions paint a picture of what it must... More
