I just loved the Villa Esche! We came along with a friend and felt very welcome - though no guided tours were on plan, two nice ladies were ready to tell us about the history, the character and the rooms of the villa. Money money money money... oh, Chemnitz was rich. I don't know why. Nothing so simple as mining silver and coining it, although the Ore Mountains are a hop and a skip away. Water power? Coal -- lignite, but it burns well enough -- in the neighbourhood? With the Esche family, the guide told us, it was industrial espionage: Great-grandpa strolled... More
